The Art of Postcard Writing - Leticia Supple

Review: The Art of Postcard Writing by Leticia Supple

Sending postcards is an expected part of travelling. So you collect addresses and make promises, and leave. But writing postcards is tricky: what do you write? How do you fill that space? Oh whoops, now the space is too small. Is it ok to write about the weather??

This short, snappy book contains 25 tips for the postcard writer (and budding postcard writer), that makes sending postcards stress-free and good fun. And at the end of it, your recipients will receive memorable and beautiful postcards.

It’s the ultimate traveller’s companion.

I’ve always struggled to write anything of significance on a postcard. But the will to write the pesky things is still there! I do know the author of this book but it took me some time to actually purchase it and give it the read it deserved which I did, in one sitting, taking away with me a clear vision of how I could shape my future postcard writing.

Since finishing the book several months ago, I have made a point of regularly buying postcards and writing them to not only Leticia herself (who better to practice on than the master?) but to other friends around the world.

I have used the book as a guide looking for ways to make my postcard writing more interesting and have found writing funny annecdotes, or playing small tricks on the recipient a great way to fill the small space! I have also found some great novelty postcards such as puzzles and aeroplanes.

This book provided me with the inspiration I needed to rediscover the fun in a simple piece of card. I can only thank Leticia for this as her focus as a trained editor combined with her free spirit of imagination enables you to see that whilst a postcard leaves you very little space to work with, the opportunities are boundless.

I highly recommend you read The Art of Postcard Writing for yourself!

I'm BrizzleLass, I have Bipolar and have been dealing with mental illness in one form or another since childhood, I was first diagnosed with depression at nine. It's not easy speaking out about my experiences, some of them are extremely painful, but if I can help even one person then I have succeeded in sharing my story. This is where I talk about my mental health among other things that interest me. I enjoy walking, PlayStation, reading, heavy metal, and spending time with my Niece.
