F**k This Journal - Dale Shaw

Review: F**k This Journal: Betterness Through Bitterness by Dale Shaw

Paralysed with bitterness and an overwhelming desire to push people over?

Looking for ways to spur your rotten creative core?

Need an outlet for your twisted thoughts and pathetic dreams?

Struggling for a secret santa gift for the creepy bloke in marketing?

Well, look no further than F**K This Journal – the only book to use anger and resentment as the pointy stick to goad your inner artistic pursuits. It’s time to embrace your ‘Cre-hate-ivity’.

And remember: You are a star! (Dim, distant and dead inside.)

I have found the fad in self-help journal’s infuriating. The idea that people need to be told what to write, how to journal for their own wellbeing is really quite patronising. The fact it has become such a fad and there are so many books now out there says to me that people are now jumping on the bandwagon as a way of making money for themselves.

What drew me to F**k This Journal was the fact it was very obviously a parody on these journals by someone who is clearly as sick of the as I am. Sometimes it is OK to not know what to write in your journal, to not be inspired. This book points that out in a humourous and quite blatant way.

This book is not PC and it does not hold it’s punches. It does though, start to get quite repetitive, and where I was laughing at the beginning, I started to groan and sigh towards the end as I felt a little like the joke was being a bit over-done by that point. This book may have been better as a slightly smaller/shorter version but it does drive the point home and it does create some laughs.

It would make a great gift for a friend, secret Santa, or prank.

I'm BrizzleLass, I have Bipolar and have been dealing with mental illness in one form or another since childhood, I was first diagnosed with depression at nine. It's not easy speaking out about my experiences, some of them are extremely painful, but if I can help even one person then I have succeeded in sharing my story. This is where I talk about my mental health among other things that interest me. I enjoy walking, PlayStation, reading, heavy metal, and spending time with my Niece.
