#Review: Chasing Embers by James Bennett @Benjurigan @orbitbooks

Behind every myth there is a spark of truth . . .

There’s nothing special about Ben Garston.

Or so he’d have you believe. He won’t tell you, for instance, that he’s also known as Red Ben. Or that the world of myth and legend is more real than you think.

Because it’s his job to keep all that a secret.

But now a centuries-old rivalry has resurfaced, and the delicate balance between his world and ours is about to be shattered.

Something is hiding in the heart of the city – and it’s about to be unleashed.

OK I admit I may have fallen a little bit in love with Ben Garston while reading this book. He’s tough, he’s a biker, he fights for what he believes in, and oh yeah, he’s a dragon.

When there are several attempts on his life in one night Ben knows something is up as a centuries old alliance has been broken. The more he invesigates the more danger he realises him and the woman he loves are in. As he fights to right the wrongs and save her life it becomes clear just how attached to humans Ben is and just how much he would do to keep humanity intact.

This is a superb urban fantasy from James Bennett, with myths from around the world delicately woven into the narrative so that they help guide our characters from country to country.

The worldbuilding in this novel is intricate and detailed. As an urban fantasy it is set in our world but Bennett has layerd a paranormal fantasy world upon it which is well explained and believable.

The fight scenes are graphic, violent and leave you breathless. There is a sense of finality looming with each one and you are never sure who will come out the victor.

This is the beginning of a new series and I look forward to seeing what is to come for Ben Garston and this world.

A huge thanks to James Bennett and Orbit for the eARC of this book in return for my honest review.

I'm BrizzleLass, I have Bipolar and have been dealing with mental illness in one form or another since childhood, I was first diagnosed with depression at nine. It's not easy speaking out about my experiences, some of them are extremely painful, but if I can help even one person then I have succeeded in sharing my story. This is where I talk about my mental health among other things that interest me. I enjoy walking, PlayStation, reading, heavy metal, and spending time with my Niece.
