#Review: The Vets at Hope Green Part 1: Escape to the Country by Sheila Norton @NortonSheilaann @EburyPublishing

Working as a receptionist in a London vets, Sam is living far from her idea of a simple life. She’s always broke, rents a tiny flat and is constantly arguing with her boyfriend. But the worst part is that her career is going nowhere. She wants to be a vet, but the most contact time with the animals she has is a quick hello when she books in their next appointment.

Something’s got to give, so when her parents suggest visiting her Nana Peggy in a small quiet picturesque village, she agrees, thinking a bit of R&R could do her good.

But rest and relaxation may not be the order of the day. Poor Nana Peggy’s lovely dog Rufus is unwell, and Sam can’t help but grow fond of him. With the help of Joe the local vet, a charming yet strangely distant man, Sam sets out on looking after him, despite her London life trying to call her back…

Escape to the Country is the first of a four part novella series under The Vets at Hope Green banner. In this first part we meet Sam. Sam is frustrated with her life, she doesn’t like the tiny flat she lives in, she’s a receptionist at a vets practice and not a vet, and she doesn’t like her boyfriend very much. As the holiday they have booked together approaches she gets cold feet and instead runs to Hope Green where her Nana Peggy lives so that she can spend some time with her relaxing and reevaluating her life.

Hope Green is the idealistic coastal village in Dorset, everybody knows everybody else, is super friendly and Sam starts to feel completely at home even though she is only there for two weeks.

When she meets the annoying local vet Sam she is intrigued, despite him being rude and standoffish there is just something about him which keeps her attention.

This novella is well-written, has some really interesting story arc’s and I can see the story as a whole going in multiple directions. This is a really easy read and leaves you wanting more. I was really disappointed when it finished as I wanted to know how the story ends, of course this means I will have to get part 2 to continue the story!

A huge thanks to Sheila Norton and Ebury Digital for the eARC of this book in return for my honest review.

It's not easy speaking out about my experiences, some of them are extremely painful, but if I can help even one person then I have succeeded in sharing my story. This is where I talk about my mental health among other things that interest me. I enjoy walking, PlayStation, reading, heavy metal, and spending time with my Niece.
