#BlogTour: Angelbound by Christina Bauer @CB_Bauer @MyMonsterHouse @XpressoTours #GuestPost #Giveaway

Christina Bauer has released the first book in her Angelbound Origins series as an audiobook. This tour which has been organised by Xpresso Book Tours will tell you all you need to know about this fabulous book! I reviewed Angelbound not long ago and you can find the review here. Today I have an interview with Christina and there is also a tour-wide giveaway for you.

*Now an audio book!*

Eighteen year old Myla Lewis is a girl who loves two things: kicking ass and kicking ass. She’s not your every day quasi-demon, half-demon and half-human, girl. For the past five years, Myla has lived for the days she gets to fight in Purgatory’s arena. When souls want a trial by combat for their right to enter heaven or hell, they go up against her, and she hasn’t lost a battle yet.

But as she starts her senior year at Purgatory High, the arena fights aren’t enough to keep her spirits up anymore. When the demons start to act weird, even for demons, and the King of the Demons, Armageddon, shows up at Myla’s school, she knows that things are changing and it’s not looking good for the quasi-demons.

Myla starts to question everything, and doesn’t like the answers she finds. What happened seventeen years ago that turned the quasi-demons into slave labor? Why was her mom always so sad? And why won’t anyone tell her who her father is? Things heat up when Myla meets Lincoln, the High Prince of the Thrax, a super sexy half-human and half-angel demon hunter. But what’s a quasi-demon girl to do when she falls for a demon hunter? It’s a good thing that Myla’s not afraid of breaking a few rules. With a love worth fighting for, Myla’s going to shake up Purgatory.

My Top Five Non-Human Characters

By Christina Bauer

My book, ANGELBOUND, tells the story of a part demon girl who falls in love with a part angel prince. If you aren’t familiar with the book, there’s a quick trailer right here. In any case, I’m now doing an author tour to celebrate the launch of ANGELBOUND as an audiobook on Audible and iTunes, and I’ve been asked about my top five non-human characters by the amazing Brizzle Lass! Without further ado, here they are:

Number Five: Grendel’s Mother
Maybe you remember the story of Beowulf from high school, but as a refresher, it’s the tale of a heroic king (Beowulf) who has to kill an evil monster (Grendel.) That part is relatively easy for our so-called hero. But it’s Grendel’s Mother who gets pissed off and really causes Beowulf some trouble. I love the character of Grendel’s Mother because she’s a badass monster-demon-beyotch who doesn’t give a crap if her kid is nasty, she’s not going to stand aside when her boy is taken down by some Anglo Saxon. As a mom, I can respect that. Totally.

Number Four: Isis
Isis is a goddess from Ancient Egypt. She’s married to Horus, who’s a major dumbass. Let me explain. Horus gets invited to a party by Seth, the God of Chaos. Not only does Horus go to this party (who goes to a party hosted by Chaos?) but he also agrees to let Seth seal him inside a sarcophagus (aka coffin). Like I said, dumbass. Long story short, Horus ends up getting killed and chopped up into little itty-bitty god-bits. Isis spends years putting him back together so that they can have sex one last time, conceive Horus, and therefore place the universe back in balance again, and all because Isis is just that awesome.

Number Three: Athena
Athena is a super warrior who works smarter, not harder. Here’s one of my favorite examples of that in action. One time, Poseidon challenges Athena to a battle of power. Whoever wins then gets to have a city named after them. The fight begins. Poseidon takes out his mighty trident, zaps a cliff side, and makes a massive water spout.

Ooh, aah.

Now, Athena is the only goddess who can wield Zeus’s thunderbolt, so she could easily beat Poseidon in the zapping-shit department. Instead, she steps up to the crevasse where Poseidon made a mess, drops in a seed, and makes the very first olive tree. Olives became the mainstay of Greek life, considering how they traded olive oil and built ships from the wood. She totally wins the fight and Athens is instantly named after her. It’s a major goddess fuck-you moment where brains win over brawn. Love it.

Number Two: The Original Ash Maiden
In the Grimm’s fairy tale version of this story, Ash Maiden’s big problem was not household chores, but that she missed her dead mother. Ash Maiden had grief work to do, and for those of you who’ve lost someone, you know what a bitch that can be. Every day, Ash Maiden wept by her mother’s grave. Over the tears, her tears sprouted into a tree… And from that tree dropped her gown and glass slippers. Its branches were also the home of a little bird who helped Ash Maiden to find her prince.

So, in this version, it wasn’t housework that held Ash maiden back, but the mourning that she needed to do for her mother. Once that was complete, our heroine created her own magic in order to change her life. And that, in my opinion, is pretty badass.

Number One: Myla Lewis
Hey, it’s my list here. So am I going to make the character from my own book my number one favorite? Hell yeah! Myla Lewis is a part-demon girl who has powers over not one, but two deadly sins: lust and wrath.

Here’s why I wrote her that way. I wanted to create a story about a teenage girl who dealt with anger and lust because those aren’t topics where there existed a ton of fun literature for girls. Also, I wanted Myla to actually like kicking ass and, eventually, (SPOILER ALERT) falling in love-slash-lust. Bottom line? Both of these states of mind can be cool if you’re in control… And that’s what Myla’s all about. I’ve been thrilled that readers have responded to her so strongly.

One final note about Myla: you can now hear her voice in the audiobook version of ANGELBOUND (which I narrate.) I made a little video of myself doing the different voices in the book, so you can get a feel for what she sounds like in four minutes or less. I also-also uploaded a sample of the final book here.

All in all, thanks so much for asking about my favorite non-human characters…I had a fun time answering this question! In case you think of more queries, I’m always up for reader interaction, and more information on how to contact me is listed below.
