The Bloggers Bookshelf – Vicki from Cosy Books @Vicki_CosyBooks

Welcome to The Bookshelf. Each week I feature an author or book blogger and talk about their bookshelf with them. It’s a light-hearted, book focused, Q&A.

This week I have a lovely blogger who writes fantastic reviews! Vicki blogs over at Cosy Books where she writes reviews for mainly women’s fiction and psychological thrillers.

I hope you enjoy peeking into her bookshelf…and as always click on the books for more info or to buy…

What was the first book you remember having on your bookshelf?
The first book I remember was a yellow book, about a grasshopper who kept getting shooed away for singing a song. I must have been about three years old when my Dad used to read this to me over and again, and I absolutely loved it! I can’t remember the title, but I do still remember the Grasshopper’s song!

What was the most recent book you added to the bookshelf?
The most recent addition to my shelves was Last Seen by Lucy Clarke. I’ve also just bought Sweetpea by Cj Skuse and eagerly waiting for that to arrive.

Which book have you most recently read from your bookshelf?
I finished The Night Visitor by Lucy Atkins this morning. It was fantastic!

Which 5 books from last year would you not let go of from your bookshelf?
I have an admission here, I barely read a thing last year as I decided to finish my degree with the OU full time, alongside full time work and full time single parenting! So I pretty much read nothing but text books and papers last year.  Books that I just wouldn’t have leave my bookshelves at all would be The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and a set of three children’s classics bought for me by Nana when I was a child (she’s the influence behind my love of reading and we lost her in 2015 so they are even more precious to me now)

Which books are you most looking forward to adding to your bookshelf?
The new Lisa Jewell book – Then She Was Gone. I LOVE Lisa Jewell – favourite author whose books seem to have changed with my own tastes over the last twenty years.

Which genre is most predominant on your bookshelf?
Probably what would be termed Women’s fiction, but pretty broad so that covers romantic comedy-historical and everything in between.

Which genre do you wish you had more of on your bookshelf?
I love books with magic realism, like The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey for example, but haven’t read one for a long time. I’m not a huge fantasy reader but I do love a little bit of magic.

If your bookshelf could talk what would it say?
Well, I’ve just given them a big refurb – painted and all. So hopefully they’d say they were feeling good at the moment.  I have had a massive cull due to lack of space, and tend to only keep books that are hardback or special in some way nowadays.

What colour do you see more of when you look at your bookshelf?
My books either are very dark, or very pastel and pink, but probably the dark covers dominate and stand out more.

Can you share a picture of your bookshelf / favourite bookshelf?

I'm BrizzleLass, I have Bipolar and have been dealing with mental illness in one form or another since childhood, I was first diagnosed with depression at nine. It's not easy speaking out about my experiences, some of them are extremely painful, but if I can help even one person then I have succeeded in sharing my story. This is where I talk about my mental health among other things that interest me. I enjoy walking, PlayStation, reading, heavy metal, and spending time with my Niece.

  1. I love Vicki’s book choices and a great bookshelf share! 😀 I’m also not a huge fan of magic realism but The Snow Child was a superlative unforgettable book that won a place in my heart. I keep recommending it to my friends and just can’t seem to find any takers, they’re missing out on a treat! Have a great weekend, Claire! 😀

  2. So fun to see what is on Vicki’s bookshelf. I’ve read a few of these and just read a review of The Night Visitor. Looks like I’ll be adding books to my shelf! Thanks for sharing, BrizzleLass and nice to meet you Vicki!
