Unique Blogger Awards ~ My Answers and My Nominees ~ #UBA

WooHoo I am really on a roll now with these tags and awards, I think I should win an award just for getting through them!

So the Unique Blogger Award was the next one in the list and I had two nominations for this so I’m going to pop them together on the one post for everyone’s ease.

The first nomination came from the lovely Kelly @ Love Books Group. As well as awesome book reviews she also does theatre reviews which helps me decide how to use my theatre card no end!

My second nomination came from Joanne at My Chestnut Reading Tree, Joanne is a fantastic blogger and although she reads crime and thriller mostly which I don’t I often leave her blog thinking “maybe I should give that a go”!

The Rules

  • Share the link to the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you.
  • Answer the questions.
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award.
  • Ask them three questions.

Kelly’s Questions

You can have dinner with one fictional character, who would you choose and why?

Wydrin from Jen Williams Copper Cat Trilogy. I love this character, she’s got a filthy sarcastic mouth, she’s a badass with a sword, she can take a man down with her tongue or dagger. But she’s also got the kindest heart and loves people fully and genuinely. She’s not like most female characters where they are stunningly beautiful and impractical. She is short and stocky, pretty but flawed, and she’s a redhead. Everything about her as the books progressed made me love her more and I definitely had a huge girl crush on her!

What do you enjoy most about blogging?

The interaction with other people, when I was really sick and became agrophobic the contact with people via blogging was my only human interaction some days (other than with the Hubs). We don’t know what is going on in people’s lives and I think we don’t realise how much of a lifeline a comment or like can be sometimes. It also encourages me to stick to my hobbies and things I enjoy doing. I can be quite flaky and easily distracted, blogging is a great way to keep me focused!

Can you give the gift of a book recommendation to your readers, one that changed your way of thinking or even changed your life? Also, why did it have that effect on you?

OK, this is quite a different book for me, it doesn’t fall into my usual genres, but it fits the requirements above.

The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama, it has so many wonderful suggestions on changing your thinking and outlook on life. I regularly pick it up, open it to a random page and read a paragraph just to remind myself of the wisdom in the pages. I read it about 15 years ago and my copy now has tape stopping pages falling out and looks really battered! It’s really quite life changing and now that I’ve started meditating aswell I really understand it so much more.

Joanne’s Questions

How many books are on your TBR pile at the moment?

My TBR has 208, that’s books I actually have in my possession. I’ve been trying to reduce it I haven’t even looked at NetGalley in nearly six months other than for blog tour copies but damn it it just keeps going up!

If you could ask any author just one question who would it be and what would be the question?

Oooh that’s good… It would be Anna Stephens and it would “How on earth did you come up with THAT torture scene?”

(THAT torture scene haunts me…it seriously haunts me, I will never do DIY again!)

What has been your favourite review on your blog so far and why?

Ooh there have been a few, but funnily enough having already mentioned the author I think my review of Godblind by Anna Stephens may be my favourite. I think everything came together for that review. I felt like I said everything I wanted to say, it was a strong review, I loved the way I wrote it, I keep going back and reading it and smiling so I know it’s good. I don’t do that normally the review is written, I read through for typos a few times then that’s it. But this one I just keep reading for the fun of it!

  1. The Art of Happiness is a fabulous read. I read it about 15 years ago too and unfortunately it wasn’t my own copy. I need to look for it. It’s definitely worth a re-read.

    1. You know I think it may have been you who recommended it to me when I was in Dallas? It was around that time I first read it I think so the timeline fits. You did recommend a lot of books to me that week! 😉

  2. Great answers, yet again, learned so much about you! 🙂
The Copper Cat series should totally be on my tbr pile.. I read The Ninth Rain by Williams and it was magnificent!

I’ve been pushing myself through the hard days with literally tricking my brain… I learned it about a decade back when I let myself down with a bad mindset and then suddenly, I was like- hang on, I can totally switch my thinking around and it worked… but the Dalai Lama book must be good and interesting, I should get it for myself 🙂 I think it’s cool you meditate- it’s something I want to spend more time on seeing how stressful life is lately…

    1. Yeah meditating has been totally amazing for me, I have always been incredibly short tempered and impatient. It has really helped me to reign those parts of myself in a bit and calm down quite a lot. It’s quite refreshing.

And yes, The Copper Cat series is so amazing I definitely recommend reading it! You won’t be disappointed!
