I was quite excited for the nomination on this award, it’s a brand new one to me so a fresh take from the tags I’ve had recently which have been a re-take on tags I’ve already done in the past. Hopefully those people I’ve tagged below feel the same as well. Now that I’ve said that those thanks are aimed at the absolutely lovely Mischenko from Read, Rant, Rock & Roll. Mischenko runs one of my favourite blogs, and has so much in common with me it’s almost ridiculous. I highly recommend her blog as a daily visit.

7 Things I Love About Myself
Eeeek….Like Mischenko I’m going to avoid that paragraph on how much I hate this, let’s just say it’s a given!
- Being Fit & Healthy (I promise I’m not copying you Mischenko) On the other blog, I’ve written about all of this in detail but. My physical health was so bad I was spending weeks at a time in hospital, my mental health got so bad at one point I almost died and it was thanks to the hard work of A&E staff I am still here. I was sick physically and mentally and the past 3-4 years have been spent turning everything around. Physically I’m a different person and mentally i have a much better grasp on the bipolar than ever before, I have moments, but they are manageable and not extreme.
- I’m Ambitious I’ve always been ambitious, and in everything I do. I’m never happy to make do with what is given to me. I grew up in a very poor area, my parents didn’t have money to send me to Uni, so I found another way to achieve my goals and discovered professional qualifications, my employers paid for me to study while I worked. Anything I’ve wanted I’ve found a way to get it, I’ve never let anything get in my way, but I also won’t be mean or step on other people to achieve my goals. I’ve had people use me, lie to me and deceive me to achieve their ambitions and I wouldn’t do that to others. I’ve done lots of cool things in my life, working overseas, writing for magazines, meeting some of my favourite bands, all because I’ve strived for things I’ve wanted.
- I Volunteer I have always volunteered for one organisation or another. I first started volunteering when I was about 17. I’ve always felt it’s important to give something back to the community. The organisations I’ve volunteered with have varied from local community organisations to national organisations like Help for Heroes. I’m currently volunteering one day per week with a local mental health organisation called Second Step. I work with the communications team running all of their Digital Marketing. This is my area of expertise professionally so there is loads of help I can give them and I’m pretty much left to manage it I just need to create regular reports for the board and produce a regular strategy so that everybody knows what the plan is. Second Step are particularly close to my heart because one of their delivery teams supported me for 18months while I was at my sickest and helped me get to where I am today. Without them I may not have got better.
- I Bit The Bullet I’ve been saying for years, literally since I was a teenager, that I want to write a book. I finally bit the bullet and started writing. I have my author friend, Kierney Scott, to thank for it. I wrote a short story and after reading it she convinced me that the story was good enough to be turned into a novel. I’m working on that novel now and I’m actually liking the direction it’s going in! I’ve been so lucky to have a published author like Kierney on my side, and I’ve had another friend who is also writing who is my day to day kick in the backside and his help has been so invaluable and the book probably wouldn’t be anywhere near the point it’s at now without his help.
- I’ve Embraced Me It took me a long time to feel comfortable to be myself. I worked in legal marketing for a long time and I felt pressured to be a certain way to fit their professional mould. Even colouring my hair a very dull red was frowned on and I was made to feel as though I was doing something wrong because I wouldn’t wear heels. Learning to break out of that mould that society puts you in and becoming yourself is hard. I’ve finally reached the point where I don’t care what people think, I’ve embraced who I am. If people don’t like what I look like, how I dress then they don’t have to speak to me. If a potential employer doesn’t like it, then they don’t have to employ me, but they are missing out on my brain, my intelligence, my knowledge, and that’s their loss not mine.
- I’m Strong I’m not going to regurgitate my life story but I’ve been through the pepper grinder in life. What it has taught me is how to stay strong. I’ve met some people over the years who have been through similar and they’ve been beaten by it, it’s devastating to see and I’m so glad I found that inner strength to use my experiences in a positive way. I talk about them, I share them, I use them to tell people that these things don’t have to control your life.
- I Can Cook I love cooking, and one of the things I had to do as part of getting healthy was to convert to a new diet. It’s a much healthier diet but also means I need to cook from scratch. At first I was quite freaked out, society today doesn’t teach us to do this anymore, we get used to picking up packets and cheating our way through cooking. But now I don’t think anything of it. I very rarely use a jar or packet for anything, I make all my food from beginning to end, I’ve converted recipes to suit my diet, cookery books are full of scribbles where I’ve substituted ingredients and there are pages stuck together on recipes I use regularly. I still can’t bake though!
