The Authors Bookshelf – Claire Buss @Grasshopper2407

Welcome to The Bookshelf. Each week I feature an author or book blogger and talk about their bookshelf with them. It’s a light-hearted, book focused, Q&A.

This week I have Claire Buss who is a Science Fiction & Fantasy author. Do check out her novels, they look like great reads. I hope you enjoy her bookshelf.

What was the first book you remember having on your bookshelf?
A very beloved copy of Enid Blyton’s Hollow Tree House which I have read many, many times and still have.

What was the most recent book you added to the bookshelf?
Ooh this is exciting because it was my birthday recently and I got books – yay! I added Mrs Bradshaw’s Handbook by Terry Pratchett, Fool’s Quest by Robin Hobb, A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers, All The Birds In The Sky by Charlie Jane Anders and A Whole New World (A Twisted Tale #1) – Once Upon a Dream (A Twisted Tale #2) – As Old as Time (A Twisted Tale #3) by Liz Braswell.

Which book have you most recently read from your bookshelf?
I just read The Peculiar Life of a Lonely Postman by Denis Theriault which was very charming and full of lovely little haiku’s.

Which 5 books from last year would you not let go of from your bookshelf?
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, my entire Discworld collection by Terry Pratchett, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, The Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown and The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde.

Which books are you most looking forward to adding to your bookshelf?
I can’t wait to get my hands on Assassin’s Fate by Robin Hobb, the cover is gorgeous. Is it wrong that I’m also looking forward to seeing my new book, The Rose Thief, in paperback?

What was the most recent addition to your writers bookshelf?
I recently published a collection of short stories, plays and blog posts called Tales from Suburbia. I also just bought a fellow indie author’s book – When Foundations Crumble by Annmarie Wyncoll.

Which of your own books are you most proud of adding to the bookshelf?
I am extremely proud of having written and published The Gaia Effect, my debut novel.

Which book on your bookshelf do you most wish you had written?
Eye of the World by Robert Jordan – I have read this book at least fifteen times. I am in awe of fantasy world builders who write such amazing book series’s with so much backstory, geography, history and huge lists of characters.

Is there a WIP we can look forward to adding to our bookshelves?
Yes! The Rose Thief is due out this Autumn. It’s a humorous fantasy inspired by my love of Pratchett’s Discworld.

Can you share a picture of your bookshelf / favourite bookshelf?

I'm BrizzleLass, I have Bipolar and have been dealing with mental illness in one form or another since childhood, I was first diagnosed with depression at nine. It's not easy speaking out about my experiences, some of them are extremely painful, but if I can help even one person then I have succeeded in sharing my story. This is where I talk about my mental health among other things that interest me. I enjoy walking, PlayStation, reading, heavy metal, and spending time with my Niece.
