As you all know, I am always super excited to welcome C.M. Stunich to the blog. She is by far one of my favourite authors and luckily for me churns books out at a rate that means I always have something of hers ready to go on my Kindle. Today I’m reviewing her latest release a heartwrenching love story, Baby Girl.

He died that night, alone, in the rain, in the dark, the boy that called me baby girl.
I was only seventeen; we were going to be together forever.
On his way to pick me up for prom, he swerved. I’ll never know what made him do it, what killed the boy I’d loved my whole life. With roses clutched in his hand, he bled out in icy wetness all alone.
His best friend is here though, and I’m pretty sure he loves me.
But after the accident, I left for a year and didn’t look back.
Now I’m back in town and my heart is like shattered glass.
Do I pick up the pieces and risk getting cut? And do I let another boy call me baby girl?
Codrick is Embry’s world, they are engaged and they know that spending the rest of their lives together is all that matters. They are a unit rounded out by their best friend Phoenix. The story opens with one of the most heartbreaking scenes I have ever read as Embry and Phoenix wait for Codrick only to find he has been killed.
Stunich doesn’t hold back in making sure that as readers we are wrenched through the agony of grief with our characters. Left to pick up the pieces of their lives without the one person they both loved more than life itself. Phoenix turns to Embry but she does the only thing she can think of and runs.
Just over a year later she returns, still weighed down with grief, still heartbroken, still a shadow of the woman she used to be and Phoenix takes it on himself to make sure she doesn’t run again.
This book broke my heart, over and over and over again. Anybody who has been deep in grief and felt like they will never smile or laugh or live again will understand what this book did to me. The emotion was raw and true. As Phoenix and Embry found their way towards each other discovering how they could help each other, as Embry realised she needed the support Phoenix could offer, their shared memories of Codrick the more a fresh romance blossomed, something delicate and requiring baby steps.
There were violent scenes as they got involved in a dangerous underground scene, but even this worked to help them find some closure on their past, particularly for Embry.
This book is heartbreaking but hopeful; violent, but healing; and grief and rebirth all in one tiny package.
About C.M. Stunich
C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn’t mind – especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.
She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she’s not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She’s the author of over thirty novels – romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There’s a heck of a lot to do there.
Oh, and Caitlin loves to chat (incessantly), so feel free to e-mail her, send her a Facebook message, or put up smoke signals. She’s already looking forward to it.
