TAG: 20 Questions Book Tag

I picked this tag up from Danielle at Books, Vertigo and Tea, she did an open nomination and I thought it looked fun!

The 20 Questions

1. How many books are too many books in a book series?

I really enjoy trilogies but too be honest if I’m really into a series I will happily just keep reading. The only issue I have is the size of my TBR which means I end up slipping way behind so you get series like Anita Blake for example I’m at I think number 7 and the series is now at something like 27! haha

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

Despite the intense pain, emotional trauma, and untold sleepless nights they cause. I like them, I like knowing something big will happen in the next book to answer questions, I like knowing that the author is thinking ahead and leaving the readers wanting more. I love when a book leaves me so stunned I have to message the author and check that there will be another book…which I have done!

3. Hardback or paperback?

I prefer reading from my Kindle but I love Hardback books and often will read the ebook and then go and buy the hardback edition for my shelves…however I only have one floor to ceiling bookshelf and no more space for books so I have to be a little reserved in what I buy, especially as it is already full!

4. Favorite book?

That’s a completely impossible question to answer, I read two genres and have a list of books in each genre I love for different reasons. I guess The Copper Promise by Jen Williams and Groupie by C.M. Stunich

5. Least favorite book?

This is not a popular choice but probably Pride and Prejudice…I am not an Austen fan at all.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

NO! I hate them with a passion, a romance should be a romance or a menage (which I love to read) but triangles drive me nuts…having just written this I realise I have a triangle in my book I’m writing so that’s really well done Claire…pats self sarcatically on back.

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Fallen Angel by Kim Wilkins, I did something I never do and borrowed this from a friend. She gave it such positive reviews I felt compelled to give it a go. Unfortunately I just couldn’t get into it, the setting, pace, story just didn’t give me anything I look for in a book

8. A book you’re currently reading?

I have just finished All For 1 by C.M. Stunich which I was quite disappointed to discover was a novella which ends quite suddenly. As soon as I have finished this I will be starting Ruin by Samantha Towle which is an advanced copy sent to me by Headline Eternal. They are one of my favourite publishers and I love pretty much everything they send my way.

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

Ooooh, Oh I know it was Andre by Sybil Bartel. But honestly any of Sybil’s books will blow your mind 😉

10. Oldest book you’ve read? (Publication date)

Cripes, that’s got to be Shakespeare, I’ve read them all and they are the 1590’s, The next oldest I can think of is The Monk by Matthew Lews which is 1796

11. Newest book you’ve read? (Publication date)

The Wanted by Nikki Hunter which was published 30 March 2018

12. Favorite author?

Oh Cripes here we go again. OK…

Fantasy: Jen Williams, Anna Stephens, Ed McDonald, James Bennett, and Paul Crilley
Romance: C.M. Stunich, Kierney Scott, Sybil Bartel, Nikki Landis, Tate James

Sorry I cannot just pick one I love them all equally.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

I’m a buyer. I would love to borrow books and support my library but I’m afraid it SUCKS, my nearest library is just a hub with a smaller shelf than I have in my house (I am not joking), there are two bigger libraries both about 3 miles in different directions from my home. But neither of them stock anything that I read except for very old books I’ve already read. I ocassionally pop in just to see if there is anything new I fancy but in four years of doing this I’ve never seen anything I want to read. 😦

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Twilight (the whole series actually), This was a painful read, I hadn’t reached my I’m gone of YA phase when I read this yet either so I don’t know. I could write an essay on what I hated about this series but let’s just say I disagree with almost everybody’s reasons for liking it!

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks…why would you damage a book on purpose?!

16. A book you can always reread?

The Firing Line Series by Kierney Scott this series got me back into reading romance again. I had read some bad romace novels and hadn’t read any for a long time. Then I read this series and was hooked, Kierney gave me a heroine I could love, who had an attitude, and a kick ass job, and didn’t need a man…but hell she wanted him. I love to re-read this now and again especially when I’m in a slump.

17. Can you read while hearing music?

Yes, I also don’t care what music. I can’t read without it.

18. One POV or multiple POV’s? (POV’s = Point of views)

I have no preference, I think books work well both ways so I am happy to go along for the ride.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Both, yesterday I read two books because they were both quite short. Today I have a bigger book so it will probably take a couple of days for me to get through…just depends.

20. A book you’ve read because of the cover?

Groupie - C.M. StunichGroupie by C.M. Stunich, I was sent a blog tour request for this book and I took one look at the cover and signed up. I didn’t look at the genre, I didn’t read the book description. I just fell in love with that artwork and had to see what was between the pages.

I didn’t know that I was going to discover a new sub-genre: reverse harem, or that this book would tear my emotions to pieces. I didn’t know that C.M. Stunich would become an author I bought automatically as soon as she put a book on sale, just because she wrote it, and I would always prioritise her books. I didn’t know that Groupie would become one of my all-time favourite books, or that I would contact the cover designer one day and thank her for designing this cover that made me request to be on that blog tour.

So…Yep…I don’t normally read a book because of the cover, I do judge books by the cover but I won’t read one solely because of it, but in this case I did and it totally paid off!

I’m not tagging, if you would like to take part please do and let me know you have so I can come say Hi!

Music Monday: Chop Suey by Robyn Adele Anderson

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

The Hubs brought this to my attention a few weeks ago. System of a Down is his favourite band so it figures he would be looking up their music. This is a fantastic cover, even if you don’t like metal check it out because this is a superb jazz version, you would never know it was originally a metal song. I’m super impressed.

Music Monday: Slipknot – The Devil In I

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

You may find it hard to believe that a Slipknot song could bring tears to the eyes, but this song really does. This one is so poignant for how I am feeling right now, fighting the demons inside of myself as I try and get back on top of my Bipolar.

This is quite a grusome video to put the warning out there up front.

Undo these chains, my friend
I’ll show you the rage I’ve hidden
Perish the Sacrament
Swallow, but nothing’s forgiven
You and I can’t decide which of us was taken for granted
Make amends, some of us are destined to be outlivedStep inside, see the Devil in I
Too many times, we’ve let it come to this
Step inside, see the Devil in I
You’ll realize I’m not your Devil anymoreUnder the words of men
Something is tempting the father
Where is your will, my friend?
Insatiates never even bother
You and I, wrong or right
Traded a lie for the leverage
In between the lens in light
You’re not what you seemStep inside, see the Devil in I
Too many times, we’ve let it come to this
Step inside, see the Devil in I
You’ll realize I’m not your Devil
I’m not your Devil anymore

Your station is abandoned
Fooled you ’cause I know what you’ve done
Sensation, deprivation
You should’ve burned when you turned on everyone

So, step inside, see the Devil in I
Too many times, we’ve let it come to this
Step inside, see the Devil in I
I know you’ll find your answers in the end
Step inside, see the Devil in I
You’ll realize I’m not your Devil anymore

So step inside, step inside
See the Devil in I
See the Devil in I

Music Monday: Evanescence feat Lindsey Stirling – My Immortal

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

I went into YouTube intending to load up another video today, and then I spotted this on the Evanescence channel and absolutely had to share it. A collaboration between Evanescence and Lindsey Stirling of My Immortal.

It’s beautiful to listen to, the song being a stunning song anyway. I hope you enjoy.

I’m so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
‘Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won’t leave me alone
These wounds won’t seem to heal, this pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase
When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now, I’m bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
These wounds won’t seem to heal, this pain is just too real
There’s just too much that time cannot erase
When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
I’ve tried so hard to tell myself that you’re gone
But though you’re still with me, I’ve been alone all along
When you cried, I’d wipe away all of your tears
When you’d scream, I’d fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
You still have all of me, me, me

Music Monday: Fozzy – Judas

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

I like to ask the guys I talk to/follow on Instagram about fitness for music recommendations, it’s always good to refresh your workout playlist. A few weeks ago one of the guys, a marine in the US, recommended this song to me and it is just epic and has become one I play every time I go to the gym now. So thanks to Mitch (@sargeamerica) for finding me a new addiction.

You are beautiful on the inside
You are innocence personified
And I will drag you down and sell you out
Run away
I am cold like December snow
I have carved out this soul made of stone
And I will drag you down and sell you out
Embraced by the darkness, I’m losing the light
Encircled by demons, I fight
What have I become, now that I’ve betrayed
Everyone I’ve ever loved, I pushed them all away
And I have been a slave to the Judas in my mind
Is there something left for me to save
In the wreckage of my life, my life
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
Judas in, Judas in my mind
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
Judas in, Judas in my mind
Judas in my mind
Oh, this guilt is a heavy cross
There is blood on the path I walk
And each step I take is haunting me
Embraced by the darkness, I’m losing the light
Encircled by demons, I fight
What have I become, now that I’ve betrayed
Everyone I’ve ever loved, I pushed them all away
And I have been a slave to the Judas in my mind
Is there something left of me to save
In the wreckage of my life, my life
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
Judas in, Judas in my mind
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
Judas in, Judas in my mind
Judas in my mind
Judas in my mind
What have I become, now that I’ve betrayed
Everyone I’ve ever loved, I pushed them all away
And I have been a slave to the Judas in my mind
Is there something left of me to save
In the wreckage of my life, my life
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
Judas in, Judas in my mind
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
I’m becom-, I’m becom-, I’m becoming
Judas in, Judas in my mind

Music Monday: Taking Dawn – Time To Burn

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

I decided to share another of my ‘When I wrote for music mags’ stories. Taking Dawn isn’t a band many of you will have heard of, they only released one album, and only did one international tour. But…they were by far my favourite interview out of all of the interviews I did.

They toured the UK and I think Europe supporting Airbourne, I had reviewed their album so while someone else got the Airbourne interview I got Taking Dawn. I was pretty annoyed at the time, having wanted to interview Airbourne but I walked out afterwards over the moon. I had a standard 15min slot with the founder and lead singer Chris, and that is where things got interesting. I knew their publicist pretty well by this point we’d met several times and always got on really well. I always stuck to my scheduled times and got in and out. Except for this time, Chris and I clicked, and after I had finished with my prepared questions we just kept talking until she had to come in and kick me out, we had been talking for 90mins. Chris asked for me to come back after their set so we could finish our conversation, I did and we talked for another hour. We had so much in common from our musical backgrounds to favourite comic books. We stayed in touch for a while after but as things do we eventually lost touch. I very randomly listened to the album recently and wondered what had happened to Chris so sent him a message and reconnected, to find out the band is back up and running and hopefully coming to the UK later this year.

No I don’t know what to say, I just bleed it on the page
And let you motherfuckers scream it like I schemed it anyway
Straight from the heart I seethe like I’m a part
Of every breath you ever breathe as I weave this wicked art

Homicidal, kill your idols
Your heroes are whores and your only god is you
Fuck the title, it’s a brand new bible
A hymn for the condemned
Let me hear you burn

This is the time, this is the word
Let me hear you sing halle-fuckin’-lujah
Now is the time, time to burn
Let me hear you sing it

Don’t believe the print, every word you read is shit
Yeah I’ve seen the second coming and it ain’t these pricks
Don’t get suckered in, yeah they’d sell their fucking skins
The lamb is the hand you hold and holds you down

Homicidal, kill your idols
Your heroes are whores and your only god is you
Fuck the title, it’s a brand new bible
A hymn for the condemned
Let me hear you burn

Music Monday: Metallica – Whiskey In The Jar

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

I know I could have chosen one of hundreds of Metallica tracks, but this one happened to come on and it not only always picks up my mood, it’s one of only a handful of covers I like. I also really like the video, it’s pretty simple as far as videos go but it’s one of my favourite all time music videos.

As I was goin’ over the Cork and Kerry mountains
I saw Captain Farrell and his money he was countin’
I first produced my pistol and then produced my rapier
I said stand and deliver or the devil he may take ya

I took all of his money and it was a pretty penny
I took all of his money yeah and I brought it home to Molly
She swore that she’d love me, no never would she leave me
But the devil take that woman yeah for you know she tricked me easy

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
Whack for my daddy-o
Whack for my daddy-o
There’s whiskey in the jar-o

Being drunk and weary I went to Molly’s chamber
Takin’ my money with me, but I never knew the danger
For about six or maybe seven in walked Captain Farrell
I jumped up, fired off my pistols and I shot him with both barrels

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
Whack for my daddy-o
Whack for my daddy-o
There’s whiskey in the jar-o

Now some men like the fishin’ and some men like the fowlin’
And some men like ta hear, ta hear the cannon ball a roarin’
Me I like sleepin’, specially in my Molly’s chamber
But here I am in prison, here I am with a ball and chain yeah

Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
Whack for my daddy-o
Whack for my daddy-o
There’s whiskey in the jar-o

Whiskey in the jar-o
Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
Hey, musha ring dum a doo dum a da
Musha ring dum a doo dum a da
