Music Monday: Soundgarde – Black Hole Sun

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

It’s Hubs birthday this week so I thought I would ask him to pick the song for the page, it was a risky move, his favourite music is what I refer to as Blippy Bloppy music, dance music. Eugh the thought of it sends tremors through me. Anyway he replied to my email with this attached and I was very impressed…maybe I am rubbing off on him after all!

In my eyes, indisposed
In disguises no one knows
Hides the face, lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat, summer stench
‘Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I’ll hear you scream again
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come (won’t you come)
Stuttering, cold and damp
Steal the warm wind tired friend
Times are gone for honest men
And sometimes far too long for snakes
In my shoes, a walking sleep
And my youth I pray to keep
Heaven sent hell away
No one sings like you anymore
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Hang my head, drown my fear
Till you all just disappear
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come (black hole sun, black hole sun)
Won’t you come
Won’t you come

Music Monday: King 810 – Eyes (Sleep It All Away)

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

I know I featured King 810 once before but I had to get them in this week as I am going to see them play on Thursday. I may be a tad excited, I really do like this band rather a lot and they have so much stage presence. Their songs are raw and brutal and just kick so much butt!

This is a favourite track of mine, harsh and honest.

I have never felt like this
You and I were meant to be
Don’t go away
I’ll go to my grave about this
Cause you had me believing till our final daysAnd right now I wanna die
When you put me in the ground go deep, deep, deep
If you aren’t in my life
Let me lay down in the earth and sleep, sleep

Sleep it all away
(Sleep it all away) [x3]

My feet won’t carry me no more
My mind don’t see reason to go on like this
I have a heart built for war
But I have never fought no fucking war like this

And right now I wanna die
When you put me in the ground go deep, deep, deep
If you aren’t in my life
Let me lay down in the earth and sleep, sleep
And right now I wanna die
When you put me in the ground go deep, deep, deep
If you aren’t in my life
Let me lay down in the earth and sleep, sleep

Sleep it all away
(Sleep it all away) [x3]

And if God asks where my queen is
I’ll tell him you didn’t mean it
I’ll tell him just what the truth is
I’ll tell him that I was foolish
And if God asks where my queen is
I’ll tell him you didn’t mean it
I’ll tell him just what the truth is
I’ll tell him that I was foolish

And right now I wanna die
When you put me in the ground go deep, deep, deep
If you aren’t in my life
Let me lay down in the earth and sleep, sleep
And right now I wanna die
When you put me in the ground go deep, deep, deep
If you aren’t in my life
Let me lay down in the earth and sleep, sleep

Sleep it all away
(Sleep it all away) [x3]

And if God asks where my queen is
I’ll tell him you didn’t mean this
I’ll tell him just what the truth is
I’ll tell him that I was stupid

Music Monday: Rotting Christ – Athanati Esti

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

This is one of my favourite band introduction stories. I was in Athens, I can’t remember which visit but it was between 2000 and 2002. A friend of a friend who lived there and likes the same music as I do, invited me to a gig to see some local bands play, which I jumped at.

The venue was one of those dark and dingy cavern clubs, in my opinion, the best places for intimate gigs. I will always prefer small squashed gigs to big arenas. There were a few bands playing all of them local bands from in/around Athens, a real treat for me. At the time I could speak Greek reasonably well, not quite fluent but certainly conversational so I held my own as I was introduced to people, the circle grew and conversation flowed.

One of the people I met was a guy called Themis, we had a chat, talking about bands we liked and I told him about the magazines I wrote for back in the UK. He then told me he played drums for one of the bands who were playing that night. I asked about them and he told me they were called Rotting Christ and a bit about them.

Once the bands started playing I really enjoyed it but Rotting Christ they blew me away. I’ve never been the biggest black metal fan, there are a few choice bands I enjoy but most of it just doesn’t do much for me. Rotting Christ, they instantly became one of those choice bands for me, and they still are. Since that first time I’ve seen them play in Athens a further three times. I’ve only seen them play in the UK once and that was at Bloodstock in 2016, and it’s one of the songs from their set that I’ve chosen to share with you today.

Yes, I do know all the words to their songs even though they are in Greek, no I’m not still able to converse in Greek, it’s that whole if you don’t use it you lose it problem, which means I can’t translate a lot of these songs anymore but one day I will fix it!

Μακαριοι εστε οι

Μακαριοι εστε οι

Μακαριοι εστε οι

Μακαριοι εστε οι

Μακαριοι εστε οι

Αθανατοι εστε οι

Αθανατοι εστε οι

Εο σου δοκει
Αθανατοι εστε οι
ρομαλοι
Αθανατοι εστε οι
τολμηροι
Οδοιποροι των

πραγματικοιAnd when the bells of fate sound
Digging your soul deep into the ground
Setting your sense to the bound
Spreading your eminence all around
And when the bells of fate sound
You walk in pathless ways till the dawn
Screaming for salvation so loud
Spreading your indulgence all around

And when the bells of fate sound
Then you immortals stand up and shout
Then you blessed martyrs doubt
Here comes a new age’s blow

Slaves of fate instigate
And feel your sword’s blazing edge
Your section to the enemy
Wound for the sleepy age
Slaves of fate instigate
And feel your sword’s blazing edge
Your section to the enemy
Wound for the sleepy age

Music Monday: 2Cellos – The Godfather Theme

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

OK, so…I can’t really think of much to write right now, my brain is a drugged up mulch thanks to this manic episode and I have only slept about 7 hours in the past two weeks. I picked this because, I love cellos, and I love The Godfather movies and this is a pretty epic version of the theme tune.

Music Monday: Cheap Trick – I Want You To Want Me

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

There are a few great things about this song, it’s as old as I am, and has probably aged just as well *insert cute wink here*. I also have such a fun story relating to this song, one that I think of literally every time I hear it, and that’s what made me think of sharing it today because it came on while I was thinking of which song to choose and it seemed like fate had stepped in.

When I was 12, my Bio-Dad worked as a Groom in a beautiful village in Gloucestershire (seriously this sounds made up but it’s 100% true), this was only 6-9 months before things turned nuclear between us and I never saw him again, yet it was one of the happiest times I ever had with him and I hold these memories very close, as they are among the few happy ones I have of him. Anyway, I digress. one of the neighbouring horse farms (there were a few in this village, it was a bit of a horse mad place), had a son, he was 16, named Ben. I had the hugest crush on him, not only was he as into horse as I was and willing to hang out with the geeky, horse mad 12 year old daughter of the neighbours groom. But he also liked rock and heavy metal like I did, and in my 12 year old head I was in love (I totally wasn’t really…childish infatuation was more the taste of the day but you know how it is?!).

The village put on a christmas pantomime and my Dad took me to see it the weekend I visited him and Ben was performing, I don’t rememeber what the pantomime was, Cinderella or something like that. But Ben sang this song and my little heart exploded into little happy fireworks, especially when he caught my eye and winked during the song, he totally knew this little girl was crushing on him.

It wasn’t long after that my Dad screwed up his job and got fired…nothing unusual there and I never saw Ben again but I’ve never forgotten my time there, or my little crush on Ben and his singing this song during that performance.

I want you to want me.
I need you to need me.
I’d love you to love me.
I’m beggin’ you to beg me.
I want you to want me.
I need you to need me.
I’d love you to love me.
I’ll shine up my old brown shoes.
I’ll put on a brand new shirt
I’ll get home early from work
If you say that you love me.
Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I,
See you cryin’ (cryin, cryin’).
Oh, Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I,
See you cryin’ (cryin, cryin’)
Feelin’ all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dyin’ (dyin’, dyin’).
Oh, didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I,
See you cryin’ (cryin’, cryin’).
I want you to want me.
I need you to need me.
I’d love you to love me.
I’m beggin’ you to beg me.
I’ll shine up my old brown shoes.
I’ll put on a brand new shirt

Oh, Didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I,
See you cryin’ (cryin, cryin’)
Feelin’ all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dyin’ (dyin’, dyin’).
Oh, didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I,

Feelin’ all alone without a friend

Music Monday: Shinedown – Sound of Madness

This is a weekly meme I’ve picked up from Drew at The Tattooed Book Geek. It’s very simple, you pick a song on a Monday and share it! Never one to turn away from the chance to share my exquisite taste in music I’m loving taking part in this every week, so thanks, Drew!

I’ve not been so well the past week or so, my Bipolar isn’t doing very well, if you are friends with me on Facebook you will know I was really annoyed when my Drs cancelled my Lithium blood tests without telling me. I really needed those tests as I think some of the issues I’m having are linked to my Lithium levels. I’m having a few issues with psychosis and anxiety again and I’m far too close to a full manic episode for my liking. I’m waiting to see my GP but it’s a two-week wait to see the Dr I normally see so I’m just doing the best I can until then and hoping I don’t end up in A&E in the meantime!

The song I’ve chosen is one that really hits home for me, it almost perfectly describes Bipolar, living with it, battling it, and having to pick yourself up and say “I’m not going to dwell on this”. I pretty much see Shinedown’s Sound of Madness as my anthem. Not a day goes by where I don’t listen to this song at least once, often several times. With my battle where it is right now, it seemed poignant to share it with you.

Yeah, I get it you’re an outcast
Always under attack always coming in last
Bringing up the past no one owes you anything
I think you need a shotgun blast a kick in the ass
So paranoid
Watch your back!
Hola, here we go
Another lose cannon, gone bi-polar
Slipped down, couldn’t get much lower
Quicksand’s got no sense of humor
I’m still laughing like hell
You think that the cryin’ to me
Looking so sorry that I’m gonna believe
You’ve been infected by a social disease
Well, then take your medicine
I created the sound of madness
Wrote the book on pain
Somehow I’m still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?
I’m so sick of this tombstone mentality
If there’s an afterlife then it’ll set you free
But I’m not gonna part the seas
You’re a self-fulfilling prophecy
You think that cryin’ to me
Looking so sorry that I’m gonna believe
You’ve been infected by a social disease
Well, then take your medicine
I created the sound of madness
Wrote the book on pain somehow I’m still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?
For yourself
I created the sound of madness wrote the book on pain
Somehow I’m still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?
I created the sound of madness
Wrote the book on pain somehow I’m still here to explain
That the darkest hour never comes in the night
You can sleep with a gun
When you gonna wake up and fight?
For yourself?
When you gonna wake up and fight, for yourself?
When you gonna wake up and fight, for yourself?
When you gonna wake up and fight, for yourself?
For yourself?
