#BlogTour: Twist of Fate by Regine Abel @regineabel #Review

Welcome to the blog tour for Twist of Fate by Regine Abel. This is book 4 in the Veredian Chronicles if you’ve not been following my reviews of the earlier books then here are the links…

First Officer Ghan has entered the final stages of the Taint, the deadly disease that kills most Xelixian males by the age of forty. He is determined to bring an elusive foe to justice before his body shuts down completely.

When tragedy strikes a close ally, he finds his soulmate in an unexpected twist of fate. If only she had revealed herself sooner, she could have cured him. Now, she can only keep him in limbo. Is it too late for them or will fate deal them a new hand?

Ghan has been a favourite character throughout this series. His serious approach to his job and his brotherly relationship with Amalia have secured him in the hearts of readers, well this reader anyway. So I was overjoyed to learn that Twist of Fate was Ghan’s story and that we wouldn’t be losing him to the taint after all…well hopefully anyway.

When Ghan is given a few month’s before the taint finally claims his life he accepts it as the beautiful soul we have learned him to be. Then a miracle happens and someone he thinks he knows is revealed to be more than they are and with that reveal his mate bond kicks in and that moment he never thought he had happens. I’m not going to say who, what, when, or why. Because why spoil a damn good plot point. She’s a wonderful character and together they make an invincible team both in and out of the bedroom!

There is also a question around if she is able to help cure his taint so close to the end, she doesn’t have the magic touch that Amalia did and so they have to deal with saying goodbye just when they say hello. So sad.

In addition with this touching romance, we are on a mission to free the last of the Veredian females and seeing how this ongoing story arc unfolds is thrilling, Regine Abel has been sure to put some surprises in here all the way through to the end of the book so be ready to expect the unexpected!

I laughed so much at Amalia’s children in this book, they are adorable…and I never say that about children real or fictional but just had to here. Little terrors!

This series has been a thrill to read, just bloody brilliant.

I’m very grateful to Regine Abel for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

#BookBlitz: Father Figure by James J. Cudney @jamescudney4 @shanannigans81 #Excerpt #Giveaway

I’m super excited to share this post with you, I was a beta reader for Father Figure and the author James Cudney is a very good friend. I can tell you that this book is outstanding and from the outset weaves a web of mystery which is laced with romance, drama and suspense. My review is coming soon but in the mean time don’t miss out on this fantastic novel!

Between the fast-paced New York City, a rural Mississippi town, and a charming Pennsylvania college campus filled with secrets, two young girls learn the consequences of growing up too quickly. Struggling to survive in a claustrophobic, unforgiving world, they embark on a journey to overcome all the pain, disappointment, and horror of their experiences.

Amalia Graeme, abused by her mother for most of her life, longs to escape her desolate hometown, connect with others, and fall in love. Contemplating an impending loss of innocence and conflicting feelings between her boyfriend and the dangerous attraction she’s developed for an older man, Amalia suffers devastating, life-altering tragedies. No matter where she turns, someone or something always steals her hope of finding happiness, protection, and love.

Brianna Porter, a sassy yet angst-ridden teenager raised in New York City, yearns to determine her life’s true purpose, conquer her fear of abandonment, and interpret an intimidating desire for her best friend, Shanelle. All the confusion stems from desperately needing to find the father whom her mother refuses to reveal, but an unexpected discovery of a journal leads Brianna to a shocking revelation about her missing parent. Unfortunately, by casting the net to find him, she’s unleashed a tragic history that was meant to stay buried and might now completely change everyone’s futures.

Through alternating chapters set two decades apart, each girl’s plight unfolds revealing the parallels between their lives and the subsequent collision that is bound to happen. In an emotional story filled with mystery, romance, and suspense, fate intervenes forcing someone to make a dreadful decision that will leave permanent scars.

As Amalia leaned in toward Carter expecting him to reach for it with his hand, a devilish gleam in his eyes appeared. “You’re not gonna try to pull me in, are you?” She suppressed a wary giggle deep in her gut. Or maybe it was excitement. She wasn’t sure.

“Did you want to come in the water with me?”

Amalia pulled her bottom lip inside her mouth, running her top teeth over it, contemplating how to respond. “I don’t have a swimsuit.” She lifted her hand in his direction, her fingers still nimbly holding a small piece of the sandwich. “Here, take it.”

Carter raised himself a few inches higher and brought his mouth to her impatiently waiting fingers. His full lips gently sealed the temporarily open gap between them. Amalia’s hand, uncertain what he was doing, twitched. Carter reached up with his right arm while his other held his body against the dock. He enveloped her hand with his, steadying her fingers near his lips as he slipped the morsel in his mouth. Swallowing the length of her index finger and thumb, he pulled back with delicate ease. When he reached the tip of her fingers, he paused and immersed himself in her eyes. “You taste delicious.” Carter blinked in slow motion for what could have been thirty seconds but had barely been two or three.

“You mean the sandwich does.” Amalia traced her finger against the soft patch of skin above his chin. His face was as smooth as her own flesh. A shiver meandered the curves of her dampening back.

“If you say so.” Carter pulled himself fully out of the water landing near the other side of the dock. Barely two feet separated them, but he was careful not to drip any water on her a second time.

As he laid across the wooden planks dropping a handful of chips in his mouth, Amalia’s eyes lingered on his torso noticing not a single spot of hair on his chest or stomach. But Carter didn’t have a stomach. He had a set of eight curved ridges that spanned the distance from his sternum to the top of his black trunks, a solid washboard of muscle. His dark swimsuit highlighted a sharp contrast to his golden skin leaving her increasingly curious about what lurked beneath the trunks. She’d noticed other guys without their shirts, but none resembled Carter. Her hand quivered at the thought of his body nestled against hers. Amalia closed her eyes, then forced herself to look away, certain she shouldn’t extend the reach of her fingers to his flesh.

“How’s the water?” She stared in the opposite direction fumbling with the button on her blouse. The heat had begun to break down her barriers. Amalia considered taking off her shoes and dipping her feet into the lake. There wasn’t any danger in showing…

About James J. Cudney

James Cudney - Author Image

James is my given name; most call me Jay. I grew up on Long Island and currently live in New York City, but I’ve traveled all across the US (and various parts of the world). After college, I spent 15 years working in technology and business operations in the sports, entertainment and media industries. Although I enjoyed my job, I left in 2016 to focus on my passion: telling stories and connecting people through words. My debut novel is ‘Watching Glass Shatter,’ a contemporary fiction family drama with elements of mystery, suspense, humor and romance. To see samples or receive news from my current and upcoming books, please subscribe with your email address at my website: https://jamesjcudney.com

What do I do outside of writing: I’m an avid genealogist (discovered 2K family members going back about 250 years) and cook (I find it so hard to follow a recipe). I love to read; between Goodreads and my blog at https://thisismytruthnow.com, I have over 500 book reviews which will give you a full flavor for my voice and style. On my blog, I started the 365 Daily Challenge, where I post a word each day that has some meaning to me, then converse with everyone about life. There is humor, tears, love, friendship, advice and bloopers. Lots of bloopers where I poke fun at myself all the time. Even my dog has a weekly segment called “Ryder’s Rants” where he complains about me. All these things make up who I am; none of them are very fancy or magnanimous, but they are real and show how I live every day.

A bit of humor: Everything doubles as something else when you live in NYC. For me, it’s the dining room, my favorite space in the apartment, where more than just my cooking is on display! As I look out the windows onto a 12th floor terrace, various parts of nature (trees, bushes, flowers, bugs & animals) inspire me to write. Ryder, my 10-year old shiba inu, usually lays on my feet, growling when I shift positions too many times or when I forget to share my food! Although he’s only 20 pounds, he’s quite strong and pushy. But how else can you pen the best story possible without these things by your side?

#BlogTour: Tempting the Rancher by Leslie North @leslienorthbook @XpressoTours #Review #Giveaway

Welcome to day one of the blog tour for Tempting the Rancher by Leslie North. If you want to follow the tour you can do so over at Xpresso Book Tours.

Texas rancher Nathaniel Meier always puts his responsibilities first. With his father dead, his brothers away, and his mother off “finding herself,” it’s Nat who runs their sprawling ranch. But with cattle to sell and the bank breathing down his neck, he needs all the help he can get, even when that help comes from the last person he ever expected to see again—his childhood sweetheart January Rose.

Free-spirited January always dreamed of traveling the world. The moment she turned eighteen, she left Close Call, Texas behind and barely looked back. So now that she’s home, she intends to stay only long enough to earn some cash and get back on the road. But when she comes face to face with Nat Meier, she quickly realizes the boy she left behind is now all man.

Even for a nomad like January, wanderlust sometimes gets lonely, and Nat is the one person who’s called to her, even after a decade apart. But for a man ruled by responsibility and a woman whose suitcase is her home, the future is uncertain. And the closer they get, the more Nat worries he’s going to get burned…again.Tempting the Rancher - Tour Banner

Nat has taken responsibility for the family ranch after his father’s death and while his Brother’s are off pursuing other life path’s. His one regret in life is January, the girl who left town with his heart ten years ago. And then she returns a whirlwind of freshness and colour, turning his world upside down.

Tempting the Rancher is a novella, and as such fits into a weekend nice and comfortably. I found some of this book a bit slow going, some of it a little over-described which in a novella is a shame as they are normally very quick moving. I would have liked to have felt more deeply embedded into the characters lives, instead, I felt a little detached from them until near the very end.

Nat and January are not happy people, they both come across as such sad characters the misery just clings to you through their dialogue. They feel sad about their life choices, themselves, even the things they are passionate about. It’s a smorgasbord of sad.

This is a good story, with some really likeable characters there were just a few flaws which slowed down my pace a little.

I’m very grateful to Leslie North and Xpresso Book Tours for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

About Leslie North

Leslie North - Author Image

Leslie North is the pen name for a critically-acclaimed author of women’s contemporary romance and fiction. The anonymity gives her the perfect opportunity to paint with her full artistic palette, especially in the romance and erotic fantasy genres.

The truth of the matter is she loves her fictional persona, Leslie North, more than her normal, day-to-day persona! Her bestselling books focus on strong characters and particularly women who aren’t afraid to challenge an alpha male. Inspired after years of travel, her stories are set all over the world, from the tough streets of Russia to the beautiful beaches of the middle east.

Leslie fell in love with romance when she first picked up a scrappy, dog-eared romance book from her local library. She began writing soon after and the rest, as they say, was history. She now lives in a cozy cottage on the British coast and enjoys taking long walks with her two Dalmatians, George and Fergie.

We are born and raised with values to the best of our parents’ abilities, so that one day we can be set free in the world as respectable and contributing members of society.
If we are lucky, we flourish and find our happily ever after; The one person who tilts our world on its axis. The person we hope to spend our life with, to start a family with, and pass on to them what our parents instilled in us.
Ten years ago, I fell madly in love.
It was toxic.
It was forbidden.
It was wrong.
I did the right thing; I walked away.
Because I, Laney O’Neil, am a good person…
Then why have I spent the last nine years wishing I didn’t do the right thing? Why do I still crave his touch and dream of the way he set me on fire?
Simple, because the power he had over my body was like nothing I’ve ever had again since him.
I want his brand of toxic.
I want forbidden.
I want wrong.
I want him.
So much for being a good person, huh?

#BlogTour: Let Me Love You by Jessica Jayne @JessicaJayne13 @XpressoTours #Review #Giveaway

I’m pleased to welcome you to the blog tour for Let Me Love You by Jessica Jayne. If you want to follow the tour you can do so over at Xpresso Book Tours.

Twenty-three year old Ren Haynes returns home after graduating college with two goals–start his engineering career and claim the heart of his parents’ thirty-one year old divorced neighbor, Stacey Williams.

Stacey is nursing her broken heart and shattered ego. Not only did her ex-husband have an affair, he got the woman pregnant. Picking up the pieces of her life isn’t easy, so when Ren taps into her need to feel desired again, she finds herself in a position she never imagined.

Can Ren help to rebuild her confidence and convince her that age is just a number?Let Me Love You - Tour Banner

I think it’s fair to say that there aren’t enough books like this, where the woman is older. In this case 31 year old Stacey is 8 years older than her neighbours son Ren. He has fancied her for years but she was married and unobtainable. Now she is single and he is on a mission to make her his.

I loved the dynamics in this relationship, not least because rolls reversed there wouldn’t be anywhere near as much concern or outrage about the relationship as there is with this one. I really enjoyed seeing these two dance and make their way to each other, deciding between lust and love.

I really enjoyed this book but I felt like it could have been filled out more, it was quite short and I felt like it was missing a lot of background. I could have read so much more about these two and their journey to love. This is an enjoyable afternoon read.

I’m very grateful to Jessica Jayne and Xpresso Book Tours for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

Blogiversary Guest Post: Kaisha from The Writing Garnet @kaishajayneh

Tomorrow I celebrate three years as a book blogger. It has been a wonderful three years and I love this community and I wanted to celebrate the community this week by asking five of my fellow bloggers to write guest posts to help me celebrate. I purposely asked these bloggers to write posts that reflected them and their blogs so that each post was unique and stood out on it’s own merit, and I think they have each done a fabulous job.

At the end of the post you will find a giveaway, this is my thank you to everybody who has been by my side through the past three years, whether you were there from the beginning or are a newer reader I appreciate your support.

Kaisha is a blogger so many of us know, she not only runs one of those blogs that we can’t help but to love. She has a four year old daughter who is adorable and she somehow manages to read more than pretty much all of us combined. She well and truly came to my rescue this week, jumping in at the last minute to fill a gap after one of the bloggers I originally asked dropped out last week. Not only did she jump in but she has written a heart-wrenching post, one that won’t help but to pull at your heartstrings. Thank you so much Kaisha.

‘What do you do if you see someone getting bullied?’

I knew that at some point in the future, I would have to sit down with my daughter and answer questions on bullying, but, what I never expected was for my four year old little girl, to calmly ask me, ‘Mumma, what do you do if you see someone getting bullied?’. Again, she’s four. She’s homeschooled. Why on Earth should she be asking that question?

My answer to that one is; why on Earth SHOULDN’T she be asking that question?

I was horrendously bullied from the age of five to the age of thirteen at school. I was then cyberbullied at the age of 15, and then I was bullied in every single job I had from the age of 17. I am now 28. The reason why my little girl even knows what bullying is, is because she has heard me talking about it. She has heard me express my voices on a topic which is still painful to this day. I’m not afraid to admit it, nor am I afraid to talk about a subject which NEEDS to be spoken about.

Recently on social media, I have seen people get bullied. I have stood up for people getting bullied, despite getting threatened myself as a result of that and having nobody stick up for me. Am I upset about that? Of course I am – I have been in the position where I get bullied and nobody fights my corner and it’s a horrific place to be. Which is why, despite many ‘don’t get involved’ comments, I chose to get involved because I couldn’t sit back and watch someone else get bullied and I don’t see how anyone can actually do that.

I will continue to talk about the aftereffects of bullying until I’m blue in the face. I will challenge anyone that bullies another person until I’m blue in the face. It just isn’t right. I am constantly reminded of what I went through and, whilst it’s easy for people to say, ‘move on’ or ‘forget about it’, when you’re the one dealing with the scars of eating disorders, sexual abuse, physical abuse and emotional abuse, all at the hands of bullying, forgetting it is incredibly hard. I want to forget it, really I do – it just isn’t that simple. The recent events on social media have brought all of my past to the forefront of my mind, especially as, whilst defending others, I was left out to dry myself.

So, back to my daughter’s original question; ‘What do you do if you see someone getting bullied?’. My answer to that was ‘you step in if and when it is safe to do so’. If you see your friends getting bullied or find them in the firing line to some nasty comments, don’t sit back and watch that happen because leaving someone out to dry due to bullies is the most horrendous position to be left in. I understand that people choose to not intervene due to concerns of fuelling the fire or similar, but the victim does not deserve to be getting bullied and they need someone in their corner.

The fact that my little girl already knows what bullying is, is of course rather sad. BUT, I would rather her know about a subject which can ruin people’s lives, break up families, scar people for life, so that she can help should someone need it. Victims of bullying are often afraid to speak out about it due to the high level of stigma attached to the topic, especially if they’re not taken seriously and told are told that it’s only ‘name calling’. Maybe it is, but undermining their viewpoint will make a victim less likely to come to you further down the line. It makes them more likely to hide away if the ‘name calling’ gets worse and threats are being made. Listen, observe, believe them and most importantly, be in their corner should they need you to be. Actions speak louder than words for most people, but for a victim of bullying, actions and words are as sharp as each other.

Blogiversary Guest Post: Drew from The Tattooed Book Geek @SarcasticEnigma

On Thursday I celebrate three years as a book blogger.

I asked Drew to write a post because, well, Drew is fucking awesome. He is a guy who would slip into my group of friends without any trouble at all. He loves heavy metal, he doesn’t hold his tongue when he has something to say, he has a killer sense of humour and best of all he swears like a drunk sailor! In case you hadn’t noticed I’m partial to a bit of the old swearing myself! Drew has taken to izzling all words where I am concerned (Brizzle izzle). I havent mastered the art of izzling words which just makes the whole thing even funnier, even the Hubs now izzles words to wind me up, so yeah, thanks Drew! When Drew asked what he could write I said anything as long as he was himself and if that involved taking the piss out of me then have at it…I walked into that one!

Brizzle Guest Pizzle

Hhhmm…….where am I? I appear to be lost as this isn’t my blog! Whatever am I doing here?!🤔 I seem to have stumbled into a nightmare containing a cacophony of covers with abs…….abs people! Barf!🤢🤢🤢

I am delirious and disoriented from not being able to see due to bleeding eyes! Da fuq! I mean, c’mon, look at all the baby oil on the abs, they are glisizzling! Oil is slippery making it hard to grasp (yeah, bad choice of words as hard, oil and abs in the same paragraph are a definite no people, shudders). So, it makes you wonder how Brizzle Shizzle manages to keep hold of her books whilst reading?!🤔 The only answer is that she must have a very firm grip! Hey, brizzle’s husbizzle does she have a firm grip?!🤔 On her books people, let’s keep it clean!📚😂

Oh, right! I remember why I’m here! Brizzle shizzle (Claire if we use her proper adult and grown-up name) asked me if I’d like to guest pizzle on her blog to help her celebrate 3 years of bloggizzling! Damn! She must be loco to allow someone like me on her blog!

Serious side note: It is a privilege to be asked by Claire to appear on her blog and help her celebrate her anniversary for brizzlelassbooks.

3 years of blogging is a wonderful achievement and Claire is a fantastic blogger and person so please all join me in offering her a massive congratulations.😀🎆🎊🎉

If you are wondering what a guest pizzle is then I shall enlighten you. It’s merely a guest post with post swapped out for pizzle. Claire’s blog is brizzlelassbooks and I take great pleasure (probably not the best choice of word for me to use in a post containing abs as no, I don’t take pleasure in abs) no, let’s go with amusement in using ‘izzle‘ in as many words as possible when talking with Clairizzle. Why you might ask?! Because I’m a maturizzle man-child, obviously!😂

Shizzle does read some sweet fantasy books. I have to give her props and praise for that but! Yes, there’s always a but and on some of the covers for those ‘other‘ type of books, she reads there’s often another type of butt too. If the abs are not glisizzling then the full moon is on display! – Ooohhh, cheeky!😂

And now for your amusement:

“Old McBrizzle has a blog,

And on that blog there are some studs,

With some ghastly abs here,

And some hairy abs there,

Here some abs, there some abs,

Everywhere some oiled abs,

Old McBrizzle has a blog,

On my own blog (The Tattooed Book Geek, a place of erudite eloquence and debonair refinement run by a gentleman blogger extraordinaire) I have a series of posts about fun and inappropriate book covers. Add in that I often tease Shizzle (Claire, if you’re still not keeping up) about the abizzles on her covers and the ideal topic for my guest pizzle on her blog is one about book covers involving ‘Big‘ Studley Dong and his ghastly glisizzling abs!

So, I present to you a selection of ten of the cheesiest, occasionally hairiest, often oiled and sometimes downright weird book covers featuring boobizzles! Oh right, my mistake, the boobizzles were on display in another tab whilst I was writing the post but ssshhh don’t tell anyone.😉 It’s abizzles or if you prefer abs for you lot, enjoy!

To finish, here’s a trio of book covers that I made and izzled!
