TAG: Zombie Apocalypse Tag

Oh, I was never going to walk away from a tag with this name! Huge thanks to Avi over at Panic At The Bookstore for this tag. I love this blog, a couple of friends who review books and chat lots of bookish goodness. You really need to stop by and say Hi!

The Rules

  • Choose 5 books!
  • Randomly set up your books in order.
  • Flip to a random page in the book and write the first two names you see.
  • Put the names in the categories listed below in the order you saw them!
  • Cry at how screwed you are…

Just to prove I picked five books from my shelf I’ve taken a picture of the books I picked! I am not looking forward to killing these characters, as I’ve actually picked books with characters I love! Aaagggh!

Rivil (Godblind)

Hah couldn’t happen to a nicer person.

Durdil (Godblind)

Yeah I probably would actually

Shade (Red Sister)

Hmmm highly likely

Jula (Red Sister)

I don’t see it…

Ezabeth (Blackwing)

If she is the team idiot the rest of us must be off the charts geniuses.

Prince Adenauer (Blackwing)

Yeah, these last two are definitely the wrong way around! haha.

Ben (Chasing Embers)

I can’t vouch for his medical skills but he can kiss me better any day 🙂

Von Hart (Chasing Embers)

He’s certainly an expert being a centuries-old fae, not sure how expert he is at weapons, but I wouldn’t mess with him.

Sebastian (The Copper Promise)

Finally, one that is spot on, Sebastian is solid muscle and an absolute kick-ass fighter.

Wydrin (The Copper Promise)

Yes! Abso-bloody-lutely I would follow this woman into the depths of hell so she is the perfect pick for team leader.

Just a couple of picks here, no pressure, and if I’ve not nominated and you want to join the hoard have at it, this is a nice quick one!

TAG: Anything But Books Tag

Huge thanks to CJ at Random Melon Reads for the tag on this one, you MUST go and read his answers to this as they are absolute class, some of the best answers I’ve ever read to a tag, he had me in stitches.

I love these tags where I get to talk about life outside of reading, we all know we are incessant bookworms but this life beyond books we all have is riveting and it’s great to share a bit more of it!

Name a cartoon that you love

There are a few…but I will go with one of my favourite go to’s…Family Guy. Everyone tells me I’m like Meg, not sure if that’s a compliment or that I’m a bit of a loser but I actually really like Meg’s character so I’m going with it!

What is your favorite song right now?

Holy shit who wrote this? How do I only choose one song? OK, I’m going to pick Dark Trip by Tremonti because I’m currently listening to it several times a day every day as it’s really helping me with the book I’m writing. It’s a deep song about pain and love, Mark Tremonti’s voice really is amazing, and his songwriting is absolutely stellar.

What could you do for hours that isn’t reading?

Gaming, sit me down with the Playstation and a good RPG like Dragon Age or Skyrim and I will easily lose six hours without blinking. I don’t play often but that is why, I can’t keep time I become completely absorbed and nothing else in the world exists, I forget to eat and drink, I scream and shout, my language (which is appalling anyway) gets far worse as I start killing anything and everything in sight. And God Help the bosses that I can never bloody get past!

What is something that you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

Probably that I like going to the ballet, opera and classical concerts. I’m lumping them all together. Despite my bad mouth, obsession with SFF, and heavy metal lifestyle the girl who trained as a classical musician is still in here and likes to break out some culture now and again so I do go to the theatre for some great evenings. I tend to stand out like a sore thumb what with my hair and all but who cares?!

What is your favorite, unnecessarily specific thing to learn about?

Mythology, specifically Greek or Norse. I’ve been obsessed with Norse mythology since I was 13 and my history teacher awoke a love of Vikings in me. And the Greek obsession awoke when I moved to Greece when I was 20. I could read about both sets of mythologies/histories for days and have trawled through books until my eyes have been ready to explode. I love fiction based on the mythologies and am actually someone who doesn’t mind when someone twists the myths up to make a good book, I think that’s what they are there for to be explored and had fun with.

What is something unusual you know how to do?

Does marketing count? No I didn’t think so…

Oooh I used to play ice hockey…not sure I still could though. That’s pretty unusual for the UK I know those of you in the US will be like “that’s not unusual” but it’s pretty much unheard of here!

Oh I know! I not only can change the wheels on a car but I know how to change the brakes, and various other useful bits and pieces. My Dad was a mechanic and tyre fitter and was determined his kids wouldn’t be useless with a car. My Brother is much better than me so does most of the work on my car for me but there are certainly things I can do in an emergency or when I play assistant to him.

Name something that you’ve made in the last year

I’m guessing dinner doesn’t count? I’m not very good at making things. I didn’t get the crafty or baker genes from my Mum. I think I might skip this one and resign myself to the sad pile.

What is your most recent personal project?

I’m working on a biography, looking at my mental health, the crap I went through as a child, other things that have happened in my life. It’s slow going, I’m writing it in bits and pieces because it is so personal and I’m finding it far more difficult than I initially thought I would. I think it’s going to take me a few years to write, where I initially thought it would be a few months. I can’t work on it continuously so I’m not anticipating an end date any time soon.

Tell us something that you think of often.

Not a lot, my mind wanders a lot, but on lots of different things. There’s not one particular thing I go back to.

Tell us something that’s your favorite, but make it oddly specific.

I have a hoodie, that’s my favourite, it’s one of the only things I own that isn’t black, it’s old and ropey but I love it. I bought it in Oklahoma with my best friend who lives there. It’s a reminder of her and how much fun I had on that trip. I was there for my birthday and we went to a bar which was my first encounter with cowboys, real life cowboys. English girl in a cowboy bar…heaven! The hoodie wasn’t from that bar btw it was from a college bar which was also my first experience of a college bar and was pretty darn awesome! I love America big time btw!

TAG: The End of the Year Book Tag

I kind of freaked out when I first saw this tag. Pretty much anything to do with Christmas and the end of the year pretty much sends me into a tailspin if it’s not December already!

I’ve decided to approach this just as any other tag and ignore the name of it though because it’s got some cool questions in! I’m also not tagging people but if you’d like to take part have at it!

Thanks to Mischenko over at Read Rant Rock & Roll, sorry about the freak-out with my winter anxiety! Everyone go say Hi to her and help me apologise!

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

No. I had a few DNF’s but I have no intention of going back to them.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

No. My books are all jumbled on a list and I read based on how they fall on that list. If I read an autumnal one in autumn it will be pure chance.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

Clockwork City by Paul Crilley, it’s out early December and is the follow up to last year’s Poison City which was outstanding. I emailed the publicisit last week to beg and plead for a review copy so everything is crossed!

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

Kings of the Wyld, The Court of Broken Knives, and Princess of Blood

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?

I know I used it in my last answer, but given everything I’ve been told about it by other book bloggers and a few authors as well Kings of the Wyld. I have a feeling it’s going to completely blow my mind, I’m actually a little annoyed with myself for not having had time to read it yet.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2018?

Not really, I don’t really plan my reading as such. As I said I have a spreadsheet and all the books I have are on that spreadsheet and I have a process for ensuring I get everything read. I don’t have scheduled books for each month when I tried doing that I got really stressed and stopped reading, so I’m much more fluid now. I do have books I know are coming out in 2018 which I will want to read, most are continuations of series but otherwise, I’m fairly laid back, I am going to try not to get into too many new series next year because I am reading far too many!

TAG: Hocus Pocus Book Tag

I’m loving this Halloween themed book tag from Never Not Reading. Thanks so much for tagging me on this one, I’ve enjoyed completing this!

There are no rules. It’s YOUR blog. But if would be nice if you linked back to Never Not Reading, and maybe the person who tagged you too. Share the love folks.

The Sanderson Sisters

A great trilogy

giphy (13)

Jen Williams’ Copper Cat Trilogy, so good!

Winifred Sanderson

A book with a truly evil female villain

giphy (14)

Lanta, the High Priestess to the Red Gods in Godblind. Damn that woman scared me senseless!

Sarah Sanderson

A book that uncannily attracts children.

I don’t have children and other than my Niece I don’t really know any children so I can only go with what I read as a child so I will jump in and say The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, I first read it when I was 12 and had read it three times before I was 16.

Mary Sanderson

A book that is just plain silly.

giphy (3)

Elements of Mischief by C.M. Stunich and Tate James, I literally just read this, despite it being a great paranormal romance it also had so many plumber jokes and puns in that it was almost embarrassing. It could have made it really cringe-worthy but I actually ended up laughing my way through them, it was obviously done in a very silly, tongue-in-cheek way and meant to lighten the mood.

A book that is trying really hard to be cool, but doesn’t always succeed.

giphy (6)

Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge by Paul Krueger has such a cool synopsis but it just doesn’t follow through in the execution.

A book that isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.

giphy (2)

Red Sister by Mark Lawrence, brutal, bloody and honest from beginning to end.

A book series that just won’t die.

Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton, I’m so bloody far behind with this series and for every book I read she’s written like ten! I will literally never catch up with this series it’s a physical impossibility.

A book with a character that’s dumb as a rock.

giphy (5)

Don’t think anyone will be surprised that I pick Twilight for this one, seriously they are all dumb as fuck in that book!

The Black Flame Candle

A book or series you wish you could resurrect.

giphy (7)

Oh, so many… but I would have Kierney Scott write more of her Firing Line series cos I have serious love for those characters.

Headless Billy Butcherson

A book that’s not so bad as people make it out to be.

giphy (4)

I’ve heard a lot of negativity about the Divergent trilogy, especially the way it ends, but I really enjoyed them, especially the ending so I guess that fits here.

Winifred Sanderson’s Spell Book

A book with a mind of its own.

giphy (8)

I think most fantasy books fall into this category, don’t they? I’ve definitely lost track of things with The Shannara novels by Terry Brooks and am planning to go back to the beginning so maybe those.

Garry Marshall

A book with a cameo.

giphy (1)

As I’m not a Dr Who fan it’s bizarre I remember this but Daleks pop up in Gaiman/Pratchett’s Good Omen’s

TAG: The Fall Book Tag

I have to send a HUGE thank you to my good friend Mischenko over at Read Rant Rock & Roll for nominating me for this tag. It’s been such fun completing it and it’s so pretty too, with all the autumnal colours… (orange is my favourite colour so I’ve loved plastering this post in orange!). Please stop by and visit Mischenko who is awesome!

This tag was created by Shanah from Bionic Book Worm. All of the graphics used belong to her. Huge thanks for this tag Shannah it’s awesome!

What Goes Down - Natalie K. Martin

I literally just reviewed this at the weekend. This book blew my mind away, it tackles mental health, family lies and family dynamics and it does it all in such a real way, it doesn’t hide from the brutal truth of any of the subjects it is tackling. There is no painting over the subjects so that the reader feels comfortable but in the same vein as a reader, you are completely absorbed and love the characters wholeheartedly.

Godblind - Anna Stephens

This has the cliffhanger to beat all cliffhangers! This got to me so much I messaged the author as soon as I finished the book (well after I’d finished swearing) to make sure there was going to be a book two because the thought that it was all just ending like THAT was unbearable! I met Anna a few weeks ago and had a conversation with her about it over a drink and she said that she’s had a lot of people commenting on how it ended. Personally, I love it when a book leaves me looking for pages that aren’t there, swearing and clawing for words that just aren’t going to appear like this book did. It’s a great sign that I’m totally invested in the story…just as long as another book is coming because if it’s a standalone I may just throw myself off a cliff!

Playing Defense - Aven Ellis

Aven Ellis writes the best sports romance, it’s cute, happy and her latest was probably my favourite yet. I always come away from her books feeling warm and fuzzy (not a feeling I’m accustomed to I’ll admit)!

Blood Bank - Zoe Markham

I think we’re close enough to Halloween to get a Horror on the page! This is a great book about vampires in Swindon! I love Zoë Markham’s work and this book is no exception, so well written with excellent characters who you love to hate.

Blackwing - Ed McDonald

Awesome, just bloody awesome! I think I ground a few teeth down reading this.

Clockwork City - Paul Crilley

There are a lot of books coming up next year but at this point, I think this is the only book left on my list for this year that I will absolutely lose my shit if I don’t get my hands on it! Yes, Hodder, I’m looking at you!

Thanks so much for tagging me Mischenko, it’s been fun doing this one! I will go ahead and tag a few people. As always, sorry if I’ve duplicate tagged (I just can’t keep up with these things) if you don’t do tags, don’t have time etc there is no pressure. And if I’ve not tagged you but you want to take part have at it.
