#Review: Her Dirty Little Secret by J.C. Harroway @jcharroway @MillsandBoon #MillsandBoonDare

Description

The No.1 rule for secret flings: All kissing, no telling!

Nothing satisfies billionaire Jack Demont more than keeping socialite Harley Jacob from what she wants. After all, their families hate each other and there’s unfinished history between them…along with some serious sexual chemistry! Now they’re consumed by a wicked game of lust – they’ll give each other mindless pleasure, but nothing else. No one can know, but keeping something this sexy a secret makes everything a whole lot hotter…

Review

I LOVED J.C. Harroway’s first book in the Dare series A Week to be Wild so when she offered me the second book, Her Dirty Little Secret, I jumped at the chance to read it and she did not disappoint giving me a hot French billionaire who was taking no prisoners especially not the socialite fashion designer who broke his heart when they were teenagers.

Harley was in love with Jack, well Jacques, as he was back then. Then she discovered something that destroyed everything she thought about love and she took their love and ripped it apart breaking both of their hearts in the process. Several years on and he holds the keys to the kingdom she wants to build but he’s not playing ball and she needs to win him over.

I loved both of these characters who have so much in common it’s almost infuriating watching them pull against each other the whole time. They have both worked hard to be seen as separate from their families, they see helping people as being really important, they were both hurt irrevocably by their break up as teenagers.

As the story develops they start to come together for a common goal but can they overcome their differences, can they start to dig through the lies and can Harley be honest about the secret she has kept from Jack all these years? This story sat heavy with me as I willed these two to find their way and become the couple they were meant to be.

I have to thank J.C. Harroway for the eARC so that I could read and provide my honest opinion.

#Review: Make Me Want by Katee Robert @katee_robert @MillsandBoon #MillsandBoonDare

Description

“I want everything.”

She’s taking control. And it’s driving him wild!

Lucy Baudin’s ex dented her self-esteem and it’s time to regain control. In her job as a lawyer she’s bold, confident. But in the bedroom…she needs inspiration to reawaken her inner seductress. Asking her friend Gideon Novak for help seems wrong, yet so deliciously right!

Review

OMG! I don’t even know where to start with this book. Gideon is one of New York’s finest headhunters, Lucy is a top lawyer and an old friend of his, an old friend he was in the unfortunate position of having to give some really bad news to a few years earlier which left them estranged. So when Lucy asks him to help her with a headhunting project he is surprised especially when she tells him she wants him to help her find a husband.

She then springs on him she needs help embracing what to do having sex, having been told she wasn’t very good by her ex. As she and Gideon rediscover their friendship and newly discover a sexual chemistry which is off the charts the husband project becomes a thorn in both of their sides. But of course, stubbornness is the makings of a great story!

I loved both of these characters, Lucy is a strong confident woman but she is insecure when it comes to relationships and sex showing that you don’t have to be all things in all part of your life. People are multi-faceted and it’s OK to be insecure sometimes. Gideon is a wonderful character, he is a man who is a little bit cocky, he has clearly not always treated women well, but the way he feels about Lucy and always has felt about her shines through, and his discomfort with what she is asking of him is clear but he also wants to be there for her.

Katee Robert gives us a hot and heavy novel with characters you will fall in love with right from the beginning.

Thanks to Katee Robert and Mills & Book for the eARC of this via NetGalley so that I could review this.

#Review: Five Fathers by Kate Morgan

Description

Sin or piety.
Those are the two things I’m choosing between when I walk up those stone steps and into the church. Heaven or hell. Pain or pleasure. But sometimes, pleasure brings more hurt than pain.
I’ve learned my lesson the hard way and that’s why I’m doing this, giving up everything I know and love for a whole new life. A life dedicated to something, someone, other than myself.
The thing is, sometimes fate has other ideas.
Out of all the churches in town, I picked this one. This building with its vaulted ceilings and stained glass and all its secrets.
This building that houses them.
My five worst sins.
My five most awesome pleasures.

Review

I remember the first time I saw the cover of this book clearly. It was in one of the reverse harem facebook groups, I was scrolling looking for updates from a few of the authors I’m particularly keen on and I stopped looking at this cover and instantly followed the pre-order link knowing this was a book I had to read. I didn’t even read the blurb at that stage instead wanting to dive in blind.

Natalia finally sees her mob boss Father commit one too many crimes and runs, straight to a church where she thinks she will be safe. Except in that church pretending to be Priests are a team of mercenaries who just happen to be hunting her Father.

Hawke, Arsen, Weston, Colt, and Mace may well be the fire they talk about when people use the saying jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. They are cold, ruthless, and in Arsen’s case insane. Staying with them may seem like the safe choice but it is likely she would be safer in a pit of viper’s.

Natalia’s relationship with them is fraught and uncomfortable but heated as she explores her sexual desires vs her personal feelings. These men just want information and they have no trouble using her to get it. I loved the darkness in this relationship, this wasn’t a romantic story where we are waiting to see a happy ending. I was just hoping everybody got out alive and unscathed.

Five Fathers is a stunning reverse harem which gave me everything I LOVE in a novel like this, but it is definitely not for people who like candlelight and roses served with their books. This is a dark romantic suspense with not a lot of romance!

#ReleaseBlitz: Pretty Ugly by Jane Anthony @JAnthonyAuthor @EJBookPromos #Review #Playlist

This is the second book in Jane Anthony’s Addicted Hearts series. If you missed my review of book one on Tuesday then follow the link below to read it now!

Book One: Pretty Reckless

Description

We were meant to live happily ever after,

a promise I sealed with a band of gold.

Our road was rocky and rough, yet worth every mark etched on my heart.

Kat is my addiction.

I’m her salvation.

Two hearts joined in pain.

Yet beneath the surface of our intended bliss, a tsunami was brewing.

An unstoppable force driven by deceit.

Now I’m back in New York — the city that stole my soul — caught between the future that awaits and a past that won’t let go.

I promised us a happy ending

But the ugliest lies are the ones we tell ourselves.Pretty Ugly - Tour Banner

Review

After the turmoil of Pretty Reckless I thought I was prepared for Pretty Ugly but I didn’t have a clue what I was letting myself in for reading this book. Kat and Chase are seemingly living in bliss but they both are still haunted by the demons of their addiction and it really is only a matter of time until one of them bends too far and breaks.

I guess anybody reading this who hasn’t suffered with addiction would find it hard to understand that pull, how easy it can be to fall back down the rabbit hole and lose everything you’ve gained over the years of sobriety. But as someone living it I can tell you that every single day is a tremendous battle and sometimes things happen that rock that boat a little too much.

Seeing what happens in this book rocked my world as I read, tears pouring down my face as I watched Kat and Chase try to find their way through it back to each other. These two people are so real either of them could be me and I felt me heart ripping apart over and over through this book. Their love for each other just not being enough.

Pretty Ugly is dark, and gritty. Full of heart and soul. And it is well, ugly. But it is full of hope and love as well. I love these characters and I know that anybody who picks this series up is going to fall in love with them as much as I have.

Sending a huge thanks to Jane Anthony and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for the eARC so that I could read and honestly review this novel.

#Review: The Guardian by Nikki Landis @landisnikkiauth

Description

Rhiannon has been hidden most of her life and protected from the terrible tragedy that stole her parent’s lives when she was only a child. Raised in a normal human society, she thinks her life will never change. And then strange things start happening, and someone or something seems to be watching her every move…

Fate has a way of intervening when she is confronted by true evil, her existence threatened by an entirely new and foreign entity, one that is as mysterious as the man who suddenly enters her life. A stranger that makes her question her reality and an unimaginable fate she is destined to follow, Kellen’s motives are as strange as his appearance.

Now Rhiannon must seek the truth as a dark and deadly enemy pursues hunting her, but the only protection she has is….The GuardianCan she trust in Kellen when her life is on the line?

Is the Light strong enough to defeat the Darkness, even if it seeks your soul?

Review

Nikki Landis is a sure thing for me these days, I don’t need to read a description or think twice about picking up one of her books. But I am behind on her earlier works and this is something I’m keen to rectify. So when she offered me the chance to read her first paranormal romance series I jumped at the chance.

I had had The Guardian on my Kindle for a really long time…long enough that the version I had was out of date (oops) Nikki had since updated it with new content so that it was a longer book, she very kindly sent me the newer version so that I didn’t have to buy it again.

The Guardian is about Rhiannon, the chosen one, brought up in the human world and unaware of her destiny or her supernatural heritage. Kellen is The Guardian sent to protect her and help her adjust as she comes into her powers and learns what she is destined for.

I can’t compare this to other Nikki Landis books I’ve read because it’s clear that as a writer she’s moved into different territory than where she started. This book was a YA paranormal romance, with no sex and very morally astute characters…which I guess fits with their angelic ties.

This was far more slow burn even at YA standards than I prefer, but that’s not a bad thing I’m just a fiend who likes a lot of action in my romance novels!

The paranormal aspects are fantastic, I love how the story is carefully built up and not too much is introduced but just enough to get you engaged and interested in what is happening. I’m keen to know where this is going in the coming books.

Rhiannon was a little too likeable for me, I know I know how can someone be too likeable. Remember I like bad girls, I like my leading ladies to have a pair of balls on them. Rhiannon was too easily appeased there were several moments through the book where she should have been throwing plates and spitting venom and she just calmly understood, seeing the bigger picture. Nah, sorry, but I like a few venomous fights! I felt by the end of the book she was starting to find a little more grit so I think as the series continues this is an aspect of her character she will grow into and I will feel less frustrated by.

Kellen is a little sappy for a bit strong years old Guardian warrior. He really does act like a 15-year-old who has never seen a pretty girl before. I would have preferred him to be a little more alpha. But I did like him, and I loved his story and feel like there is a lot more to his story that we have yet to learn. I’m also looking forward to seeing him kick some more demon backside.

It is also in this book that we get our first glimpse of one of my favourite of Nikki’s characters Jarrod (assuming you are reading in the right order unlike me)…it’s a bit part but I have a big thing for Jarrod and was so happy to see him appear in a few scenes.

Overall, a solid YA Paranormal Romance which I think will graduate into NA as the series progresses. I am thoroughly looking forward to getting my teeth into books 2,3,4 etc because I can see this is going to be a series I’m going to be completely invested in.

Thanks to Nikki Landis for gifting me the newer version of this book so that I could read it and provide my honest review.

#Review: Pretty Reckless by Jane Anthony @JAnthonyAuthor

Don’t miss out…Pretty Reckless is FREE for today only, so if you like the sound of it after reading my review be sure to go download yourself a copy!

I’m on the blog tour for Pretty Ugly, book two in this series on Friday and I can’t wait to share my review of this book.

Description

Two years ago, I watched my girlfriend die.

We chased the high, night and day, searching for that magical fix that would cure the pain. But in the end, the escape she lived for took her from me.

Now, sober and rebuilding the life I almost destroyed, the last thing I need is another beautiful project dragging me down. Especially a Greek goddess with a sharp tongue and a drinking problem. But hidden inside Katarina’s charcoal gaze is a broken soul crying out for help. Like a true addict, I can’t say no.

Maybe if I can save her, it will make up for my past. But her salvation could also be my ruin.

Review

You can call me fickle, easily swayed, or even odd. But seeing on a Facebook post that this book had a Greek character I was sold, sign me up I say and there I am reading the first book and jumping on the blog tour train for the second book without even reading the blurb. Yes I am THAT obsessed with all things Greece (you live there for a year as well I guarantee you will join my club).

I opened Pretty Reckless and there was a Greek to English glossary which just gave me shivers (and made me feel a bit better as I thought I had forgotten all of my Greek and it turns out I haven’t…yay me!).

Then I start reading and I can’t even begin to describe the emotional tug of war that Jane Anthony put me through, not least because I saw so much of myself in both characters having been through much of what they were both battling. This book was one which touched a lot of nerves for me and I found myself sobbing through much of this book wishing they could find a way through their own personal turmoils even if they couldn’t find each other.

Chase is a recovering addict, he lives a simple life, he holds down a job, looks after his Gran and doesn’t get involved with women.

Kat is first generation Greek American, her family are traditional Greeks, but she is on a road to destruction, drowning her problems and memories. To say her last relationship ended badly would be an understatement of epic proportions. She has dreams but her family don’t support her.

When these two lost souls collide sparks fly and I felt caught in a trap with them as they pulled against and towards each other unsure which way they should be going and often at opposite times as one pulled away the other would be pulling toward so their wires would cross and messages never quite getting through.

This book tackles the struggles of addiction with such a raw honesty and although it brought back some horrific memories for me I was so entangled in the story of Chase and Kat I couldn’t help but to love the words on the page, every single one of them and to just root for these two people who deserved to find some peace and love.

Huge thanks to Jane Anthony for the eARC so that I could read and review this book honestly.

#Review: The Wanted by Nikki Hunter @NHuntAuthor

This is book two of a four book novella series. For my review of the first book follow the link below:

Book One: The Needed

Description

One soul mate is destiny. Five soul mates are cause for temporary insanity. Camila’s five infuriating mates are making her head spin. If only the craziness would stop.

After sparing Bekket’s life and finding out their fae queen has gone mad, Yehven, Kade, Zayn, Lance, and Camila are all being hunted. Can they play hide and seek long enough to gain allies?

The game of cat and mouse now begins.

Review

I was left at the end of The Needed with a need (sorry couldn’t help myself) to read more. I was totally sold on this series and just wanted more. The Wanted didn’t disappoint and Camila continued to be one kick-ass genie heroine in this instalment.

Trying to come to terms with having five mates and trying to bond with them and become comfortable with who she is and what having mates instead of her usual bonded. She embarks on a journey with her fae men to try and fix the problem with the fae Queen that Bekket brought to their doorstep in the last book.

Of course, more problems pop up with this mission, and we end with a devastating twist which has left me open mouthed and desperate for more.

Thanks to Nikki Hunter for gifting me this book so that I could read it and provide my honest review.
