Week in Review – 27 August 2017

I head to North Lincolnshire on Tuesday to see my Sister and Niece. I will still be putting posts up but things may be quiet otherwise as I intend to enjoy my time with them as I probably won’t see them again for several months.

I’ve been having a bit of a meltdown about my book, I finished my first draft yesterday but it’s currently novella length which wasn’t my intention. I need to decide whether I tidy it up and keep it as a novella, or whether I rework it and get it to a full novel length, among a number of other issues. I’ve sent it to a couple of good friends both of whom are much better writers than I am for their input.

Right, here is my bookish update for this week!

Book Three: Grunt

Kaci agreed to the most important question of her life.
And then she had her fiancé taken hostage.

He played her game and trained for battle.
And now he is completely unprepared to lose.

Loving her once, Sal fell for her eccentric, wild pixie. She used her abilities—aiming her target to get revenge—but Kaci stumbled into a dangerous love, putting Sal through a gut-wrenching hell.

Can Sal ever forgive her sins of the past?

With the questions on the table, one inescapable truth looms before their relationship. His calculating mind and intimidating body built for the greater good, leaving Sal changed. No longer the curious submissive boy of the past, his new outlook is one of defiance, kink, and control.

Will Kaci embrace the changes – or – is the end closer than she ever imagined?

There is nothing he can do—
No praying on his knees for forgiveness
No bargaining with the devil to save their relationship
In this heartbreaking battle, Sal will lose.

In the fourth and final book of The Story of Salvatore, Sal Raniero begs to reverse the clock as reality leaks into his perfect bubble. With his love of the fetish world shoved to the backburner, he learns not only the meaning of love, but how precious time is.

The war begins when Sal rages into Sugargrove—
Nothing safe from his wrath
Nothing sacred in his path
…including the Hope he longed to keep.

Author Interview

Thanks for taking joining me on my blog today, I’m so pleased to have you and hope you enjoy answering these questions.

Tell us a bit about Hopechest

Hopechest is the final book in The Story of Salvatore, where I explored chapters of Sal’s life when he first arrives in Sugargrove. He’s quite young – 19 – and meets a young female pro-Dom in book one, Kaci Hope and the story unfolds with their story and why he is so broken in Juliet.

What inspired Kaci and her story?

The motivation behind Kaci was wanting a completely unexpected character to arrive in Sal’s life. She is everything he is not, yet longs to become. As the story progresses, we learn things with Kaci are not as stable as they may seem, but by that point, Sal feels a responsibility to do the right thing because he didn’t grow up in an environment of doing the right thing. And he is determined to not become his father.

Who is the man in your story and is he based on anyone you know?

Sal Raniero is my lead, usually in all the books. If he isn’t the main, he plays a supporting role. I wanted to take a character like so many other authors have in various genres and really explore his world and his life. I wanted readers to feel like they knew him and he was their best friend. He is loosely based on the love affair I have been having for over twenty years. John is very much Italian-American, so I had a rich history to draw upon to add to the reality of the story.

Which song(s) are the soundtrack of this novel?

I listen to a lot of Paramore anytime Kaci is involved.

What is your writing process?

I start with an idea––either a dream, an event, or a thought—and build upon that to get a starting point A and an ending point Z. I try and do a rough sketch with a few sentences of where I think the book should go, but the characters don’t always agree. laughs

Why Romance novels? What drew you to the genre?

I was originally working on a sci-fi/fantasy piece, but during my research for self-publishing, I learned a lot by listening to women readers. They wanted longer books with characters they could really sink themselves into. I kept seeing—we want more of so-and-so and I wanted to build a world (Juliet) and characters (Sal, Kaci, Jack, Iris, et al) that they could really feel like they could sit down and have a cup of coffee with them—like old friends. I think readers, myself included, enjoy the comfort and depth of the stability.

Who are your inspirations in the genre?

In the genre, JA Huss has been my standard go-to, a role model, and an excellent teacher. There are a few others I do read: TM Frazier is incredible and Pam Godwin’s prose is angelic. While I am on the lookout for new indies and the book everyone may be talking about on a professional level, on a personal level, I adore the writings of R. Lee Smith (sci-fi/horror/erotica). From her world building to her genre-blending, I find her work magnificent.

If you were to try another genre what would it be?

Though I technically write in multi-genre now, Juliet and The SOS series tend to be more psychological to where Fluff and Bounce lean more to the erotic, I do have plans on branching out in 2018 with a psychological thriller and a strict contemporary romance. I am a writer; I don’t think there is a genre I couldn’t write if I worked hard enough at it. Although, it would need to be something I had interest in. I don’t think I could ever write a historical romance because I don’t ever read that genre. Nothing against it by any means, just not something I have ever delved into.

What book have you most recently read

I loved B.B. Blaque’s “Beautiful Evil: The Monster” and I plan on reading the rest of the series. I am currently taking a splendid trip with Tarryn Fisher’s “Atheists Who Kneel and Pray.” After that I plan on diving into Clare Marta’s The Hunter Chronicles, Kendare Blake “Three Dark Crowns”, and Rachel Caine “Stillhouse Lake.” I need more time to read. laughs

What book do you most wish you had written?

Easy. R. Lee Smith’s “The Last Hour of Gann” or Molly Weatherfield’s “Carrie’s Story.”

Thank you so much for the interview! It was a pleasure!

Kailee xx
